Maple Leafs' John Tavares: Five-game, six-point streak
Tavares put up an assist Thursday in a 6-5 win over Winnipeg.
Tavares extended his point streak to five games (six points; one goal, five assists). He's on pace to deliver a 30-goal, 75-point season with about 215 shots. Tavares hasn't put up many points on the power play (two goals, three assists) because the entire team has struggled there. So, the recent assistant coaching change could add a boost to that total.

Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies: Five-game, seven-point streak
Knies picked up an assist Thursday in a 6-5 win over the Jets.
The assist extended his personal five-game, seven-point streak (four goals, three assists). He has 16 shots on net during that stretch. Knies has 36 points (11 goals, 25 assists) in 37 games this season. He has put a rough patch (one assist in eight games) early in December behind him. When you strip that stretch out, Knies has a remarkable 35 points in 29 games. The breakout is real.

Maple Leafs' Dennis Hildeby: Wins in relief after starter pulled
Hildeby made 17 saves in relief Thursday in a 6-5 win over the Jets.
He replaced starter Joseph Woll, who was pulled after allowing four goals and with the Leafs down 4-1. Hildeby got plenty of support in the comeback win, which snapped a personal 0-3-2 slump. Anthony Stolarz (upper body) resumed skating Wednesday, but there is no timetable for his return. The Leafs are 4-0-1 in their last five games, and they appear to be surging. Hildeby's short-term outlook may be on the cusp of improving.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Allowed four goals before pull
Woll allowed four goals on 17 shots Thursday in a game against Winnipeg before being pulled and replaced by Dennis Hildeby.
At that point early in the second, the Jets were up 4-1, and the Leafs needed a swift kick to get back in the game. It worked. Woll had won three straight games coming into Thursday, including a 4-0, 33-save shutout win over the Devils on Tuesday. This was simply a blip for the Leafs' starter. He'll be fine.

Maple Leafs' Troy Stecher: Second goal of season
Stecher scored a goal in a 6-5 win over the Jets on Thursday.
His goal was clutch -- it tied the game 5-5 in the third period. It was Stecher's second goal of the season and his first point since Dec. 16, a span of eight games. He's not a fantasy guy -- he has just seven points, 21 blocks, 19 shots and 12 hits in 21 games. Stecher's limited ice time will drop when Brandon Carlo (foot) returns to action. Carlo resumed skating last Saturday.

Maple Leafs' Matias Maccelli: Five points in last five games
Maccelli scored a goal and added an assist in a 6-5 win over Winnipeg on Thursday.
Maccelli was set up by John Tavares and Matthew Knies. Knies gave him a no-look pass, and he ripped it high blocker from the right dot. Maccelli has started to warm up of late with five points (two goals, three assists) in his last five games. He doesn't get many shots -- he has just five in those five games. But two of his assists in that span have come with the man advantage. There may be some spot value in Maccelli's game for those in daily formats, especially if the Leafs have suddenly found their offense.

Maple Leafs' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Surprising offense continues
Ekman-Larsson had a goal and an assist in Thursday's 6-5 win over Winnipeg.
It's a bit of a surprise, but Ekman-Larsson sits just one point behind Morgan Rielly, who has 26, as the Leafs' top scorer from the blue line. And that's with Rielly's plum role on the team's top power-play unit. OEL has seven goals, 18 assists, 60 shots, 55 hits, 33 blocks and a minus-1 rating in 40 games this season. If he continues this pace, Ekman-Larsson could deliver his second 50-plus point campaign of his 13-season career. He delivered 55 points, including 21 goals, in 2015-16 while with Arizona.

Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Massive four-point game
Matthews (lower body) scored three goals and added an assist in Thursday's 6-5 win over the Jets.
It was Matthews' 14th NHL hat trick. His third goal stood as the winner; it was his 419th regular-season snipe in the NHL, which puts him one goal from tying Mats Sundin for the most in franchise history. Matthews is on a personal three-game point streak (interrupted by injury) that includes four goals, four assists and 19 shots. He suddenly seems inspired, and that's the best gift that his managers received this holiday season.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Slated to face Winnipeg
Woll is expected to start at home against Winnipeg on Thursday, per Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press.
Woll has won his past three starts and is coming off a 33-save shutout over New Jersey on Tuesday. He's 8-4-1 with a 2.51 GAA and a .920 save percentage in 13 outings this season. Winnipeg ranks 23rd in goals per game with 2.82.

Maple Leafs' William Nylander: Not playing Thursday
Nylander (lower body) has been ruled out of Thursday's tilt against Winnipeg, Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Nylander is progressing, as he skated before practice Thursday, the first time he has been on skates since his injury Saturday versus Ottawa. Nylander will miss his third straight game and the hope is that he is well enough to return Saturday against the Islanders. He has 14 goals and 27 assists in 33 games this season.

Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Ready to rock
Matthews (lower body) will return to action Thursday versus Winnipeg, per Dave McCarthy of NHL.com.
Matthews missed one game with the injury. He will center Matthew Knies and Max Domi on the top line, as well as the first power play. Matthews has slumped this season with 15 goals and 12 assists in 33 appearances, his first season since his rookie campaign in 2016-17, in which he has averaged less than a point a game.

Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz: Skating, no timetable
Stolarz (upper body) has resumed skating, but there's still no timetable for his return, Anna Dua of Sportsnet reports Wednesday.
Stolarz hasn't played since Nov. 11 because of the injury. He has a 6-5-1 record, 3.51 GAA and .884 save percentage in 13 appearances this season. Joseph Woll is serving as the Maple Leafs' No. 1 goaltender during Stolarz's absence, while Dennis Hildeby occupies the No. 2 gig. When Stolarz is ready to return, Hildeby will likely head to the minors, and Woll will split the workload with Stolarz.

Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Out indefinitely
Tanev (groin) is expected to miss a significant amount of time, according to Jonas Siegel of The Athletic on Wednesday.
Tanev sat out Tuesday's 4-0 win over New Jersey, and an exact timeline for his return is unclear. He has provided two assists, eight shots on goal, 15 blocked shots and two hits while being limited to only 11 appearances this season. With Tanev unavailable, Simon Benoit could play regularly again after being a healthy scratch for three straight games before his return to the lineup against the Devils on Tuesday.

Maple Leafs' Dakota Joshua: Set to miss extended time
Joshua (upper body) is expected to miss a significant amount of time, Anna Dua of Sportsnet reports Wednesday.
Although the Maple Leafs have returned to Toronto, Joshua is still in Detroit after sustaining a kidney injury during Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings. He has six goals, 10 points, 25 PIM and 127 hits in 36 appearances this season. Calle Jarnkrok might play regularly while Joshua is unavailable.

Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Nearing return
Matthews (lower body) is "fairly close" to returning to action, reports NHL.com.
Head coach Craig Berube shared the update after Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Devils, saying he hopes Matthews can get on the ice Wednesday for practice. The 28-year-old superstar is day-to-day after getting hit on the foot with a shot Sunday. Matthews' first opportunity for game action is Thursday, and managers will be looking for him to build off his first three-point game of the season, which came Saturday against Ottawa.

Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies: Four-game, six-point streak
Knies scored a goal in a 4-0 win over New Jersey on Tuesday.
Knies has goals in three straight games (four goals) and is on a four-game, six-point scoring streak. He also picked up seven PIM, including a rare five-minute major in a fight with Nico Hischier. Knies has 11 goals, 24 assists, 15 PIM, 90 hits and 79 shots in 36 games this season.

Maple Leafs' Calle Jarnkrok: First goal in 14 games
Jarnkrok scored a goal in a 4-0 win over the Devils on Tuesday.
Jarnkrok deflated any hope the Devils had of getting back in the game with his quick strike to push the score to 3-0 early in the third frame. He has been in and out of the lineup this season, and this goal won't be enough to see him solidify more playing time. However, it was still a nice game for Jarnkrok, who missed three-quarters of last season after having groin and sports hernia surgery. It was his first goal in 14 games.
