  • Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Hoping to play soon

Matthews (upper body) traveled to Germany to see a specialist and is hoping to play either in Sunday's matchup with Utah or in a Nov. 27 clash with the Panthers, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Matthews will miss his seventh game in a row when the Leafs take on the Knights on Wednesday but seems to be trending in the right direction. In 13 appearances this year, the 27-year-old center has notched five goals and six helpers, including four power-play points, in 13 outings. With David Kampf (lower body) and Calle Jarnkrok (groin) also on IR, the team will be forced to deploy youngster Fraser Minten in a middle-six role against Vegas.

  • Maple Leafs' Fraser Minten: Called up from minors

Minten was recalled from AHL Toronto on Tuesday.

Minten's promotion comes as David Kampf (lower body) was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. With Auston Matthews (upper body) and Calle Jarnkrok (groin) already on IR, the Leafs find themselves rather thin in terms of experienced center depth. The 20-year-old Minten figures to slot into a bottom-six role for at least Wednesday's matchup with Vegas. In the minors this season, the Vancouver native is putting up solid numbers with two goals and two assists in five outings.

  • Maple Leafs' David Kampf: Placed on injured reserve

Kampf was designated for injured reserve Tuesday with a lower-body injury retroactive to Nov. 16.

Kampf played 14:22 of ice time in that Nov. 16 matchup with Edmonton, which is actually above his season average (12:18), so it's not immediately clear when he got hurt. Technically, the 29-year-old winger will only have to miss one game -- Wednesday's matchup with Vegas -- before he can be activated, though it could be longer once the team provides a more concrete update.

  • Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Remains unavailable

Matthews (upper body) won't play Wednesday against Vegas, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Matthews will miss his seventh straight game, and he hasn't been skating. Still, head coach Craig Berube insisted during Monday's media availability that the star center isn't getting worse while remaining in a holding pattern for his recovery. Matthews has compiled five goals, 11 points, 56 shots on net, 19 blocked shots and six hits in 13 appearances this season. His next chance to return comes Sunday against Utah. John Tavares and Max Domi have been serving as Toronto's top two centers during Matthews' absence.

  • Maple Leafs' Calle Jarnkrok: Undergoes sports hernia procedure

Jarnkrok had surgery to repair a sports hernia and is now considered month-to-month, the Leafs announced Monday.

At this point, Jarnkrok should probably be considered a long shot to play again in 2024, with a season debut more likely in January or beyond. Considering the 33-year-old center still managed 21 points in 52 regular-season appearances last year, the 20-point threshold may still be achievable depending on when he is able to get back on the ice -- though stashing him in fantasy leagues for minimal offensive output doesn't really make sense.

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan Reaves: Receives five-game suspension

Reaves was suspended for five games by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday for an illegal check to the head against Edmonton's Darnell Nurse (upper body) in Saturday's contest.

Reaves won't be eligible to return until Nov. 4 against Nashville. He has one assist, 23 PIM and 44 hits through 16 outings this season. If Auston Matthews (upper body) isn't ready to return, Alex Steeves could replace Reaves in the lineup against Vegas on Wednesday.

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan Reaves: Having hearing with DPOS

Reaves will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday for an illegal check to the head against Edmonton's Darnell Nurse (upper body) in Saturday's game.

Reaves earned 15 PIM in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Oilers after being assessed a match penalty for the hit at the 2:41 mark of the second period. He will probably receive a suspension. Reaves has one assist, 23 PIM and 44 hits through 16 games this season. If Auston Matthews (upper body) isn't ready to return, Alex Steeves could replace Reaves in the lineup against Vegas on Wednesday.

  • Maple Leafs' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Offers assist to end slump

Ekman-Larsson posted an assist, two hits, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Oilers.

Ekman-Larsson's hot October is a distant memory -- his helper Saturday ended an eight-game point drought. While he's no longer on the top pairing at even strength, he's still seeing significant usage and power-play time. The veteran defenseman is up to seven points, 38 shots on net, 31 hits, 20 blocked shots, 18 PIM and a plus-2 rating through 19 appearances. Ekman-Larsson's talent as an offensive blueliner and a strong supporting cast should keep him in the mix for fantasy consideration.

  • Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies: Gets gift goal in OT win

Knies scored a goal in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Edmonton.

Evan Bouchard attempted a breakout pass from deep in his zone and fired a perfect gift to Knies in the slot, who wired the puck past a stunned Stuart Skinner. He has a point in each of his last two games, and five points (two goals, three assists) in his last six appearances. We'd like to see Knies shoot a bit more -- he has just six shots in his past six outings, and that will catch up to a guy, especially one with an abnormally-high 22.2 percent shooting rate.

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan Reaves: Supplemental discipline looming

Reaves received a match penalty and will likely face supplemental discipline for an illegal check to the head of the Oilers' Darnell Nurse in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win.

Reaves drove his shoulder up into an unsuspecting Nurse's jaw, snapping his head and flipping him over before he smacked the ice hard. Nurse's face was cut badly, and he initially couldn't get up on his own. He left and didn't return. Reaves is averaging about eight minutes of ice time and has played in 16 games. His greatest value is in his hitting, but he can't help if he's suspended. We'll know more before Toronto's upcoming game against Vegas on Wednesday.

  • Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz: Brilliant work in OT win

Stolarz made 27 saves in a 4-3 overtime victory over the Oilers on Saturday.

He was headed for the win in regulation, but Leon Draisaitl tied the game with a wrist shot at 18:31 of the third period. Stolarz then made a brilliant pad-down save on a sneaky shot by Connor McDavid in OT that allowed Mitch Marner to take off and score the winner. Fans have embraced him wholeheartedly this year and were calling him out as the game's top player Saturday. Stolarz is 7-3-2 with one shutout, 2.18 GAA and .927 save percentage, and his calm presence seems to feed confidence to his teammates.

  • Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner: Hot pace continues

Marner scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-3 overtime win over the Oilers on Saturday.

It was his 200th career goal. Marner played like the puck was on a string whenever he had it, and he was rewarded with a game-winning goal in OT. He finished with a goal and an assist on the night for the second time in two games and fourth time in his last five appearances. Marner has really turned up the heat with 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) and 30 shots in his past 11 outings. Overall, he has 24 points, including 18 assists, in 19 games to lead the Leafs this season. Marner has played well with linemate Auston Matthews (upper body) on the shelf, so watch for coach Craig Berube to perhaps tweak lines and maybe even separate Matthews and Marner at some point this season. The two men want to play on the same line, but at some point, the coach will have to make a decision that's in the best interest of the team, not the players themselves.

  • Maple Leafs' Bobby McMann: Two goals while in top six

McMann scored twice Saturday in a 4-3 overtime win over Edmonton.

He's playing up the lineup and making the most of it -- he has three goals in his last two games (11 shots). McMann has speed and skill, and he does the little things right. He forechecks hard, goes to the dirty areas, and he's conscientious in his own zone. McMann won't help fantasy managers on the power play, but he could offer value if he forces his way into a more permanent gig on a scoring line.

  • Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz: In goal Saturday

Stolarz will tend the twine at home versus the Oilers on Saturday, Dave McCarthy of NHL.com reports.

Stolarz and Joseph Woll have started to alternate starts in goal, and it's Stolarz's turn in the rotation. He has allowed just six goals over his last four games, but he's gone a modest 2-1-1 in that span. The Oilers have scored 20 goals over their last six contests, going 4-2-0 over that stretch.

  • Maple Leafs' Philippe Myers: On conditioning stint

The Maple Leafs sent Myers to AHL Toronto on a conditioning stint Saturday.

Myers has been a healthy scratch in 17 of Toronto's 18 games. He will get some much-needed playing time with the Marlies as the team plays six times over the next 14 days.

  • Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Won't play versus Edmonton

Matthews (upper body) will not be in the lineup against the Oilers on Saturday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.

Matthews will miss his sixth straight contest as he continues to be hampered by an upper-body issue. The Leafs have soldiered on in his absence, going 4-1-0 without their world-class center. Max Domi has been slotting into the first-line center role without Matthews in the lineup but could drop back down to the third line or shift to wing when Matthews returns.

  • Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies: Pockets helper

Knies logged an assist and two shots on goal in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Capitals.

Knies set up a William Nylander tally in the third period. Knies also had a goal overturned in the contest. The 22-year-old winger has four points over his last five contests and continues to see top-line usage and power-play time. He's up to seven goals, four assists, 35 shots on net, 43 hits and eight PIM over 18 games in what's shaping up to be a breakout campaign.

  • Maple Leafs' Pontus Holmberg: Finds assist in overtime win

Holmberg logged an assist and two PIM in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Capitals.

The helper was Holmberg's first point since Oct. 10, a span of 13 scoreless appearances. The 25-year-old has been an occasional healthy scratch this season and is unlikely to see anything more than a bottom-six role. He has two assists, 15 shots on net, 10 blocked shots, 15 PIM and a minus-5 rating over 16 outings.
