The Cubs signed Ross to a minor-league contract Monday. Ross was released by the Phillies last week after collecting a 5.12 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB over 51 innings. He will give the Cubs some experienced depth with the ability to work multiple innings.

The Phillies released Ross on Tuesday. Ross surrendered three runs in in his one-inning relief appearance in Monday's 13-3 loss to the Mets, which apparently prompted the Phillies to re-evaluate his place in their bullpen. The veteran right-hander joined Philadelphia on a one-year, $4 million deal during the offseason and nothced a 5.12 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB over 51 innings in 2025.

The Phillies activated Ross (back) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Ross has been sidelined since late July with back spasms but is ready to go following a brief rehab assignment. He'll fill a multi-inning relief role.

Ross (back) made his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, allowing one hit and no walks in a scoreless fourth inning. He struck out two. Ross was sharp Friday, throwing 10 of his 15 pitches for strikes. The 32-year-old right-hander is rehabbing from back spasms, and he should be able to return to the Phillies in early August if all goes well. Ross will likely operate as a multi-inning middle reliever once he's activated from the injured list.

Ross (back) threw a bullpen session ahead of Monday's game against the White Sox, per MLB.com. Ross is recovering from back spasms, and it's encouraging to see that he's going through his throwing progression. It's unclear if the 32-year-old right-hander will be able to come off the injured list when first eligible on Aug. 6, but it doesn't appear as though he's facing an extended absence.
