  • Francis (shoulder) threw a live batting practice session at the Blue Jays' spring training complex Monday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Francis touched 93 miles per hour with his fastball during the session and will face hitters again Friday and he continues to get built back up. He's been sidelined mid-June with a right shoulder impingement, and while a return before the end of the season seems unlikely, Francis will hope to get some peace of mind health-wise heading into the offseason.

  • Blue Jays' Bowden Francis: Suffers setback
    By RotoWire

Francis (shoulder) experienced shoulder discomfort while rehabbing and will be shut down for at least 10 days, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Francis has been on the shelf since June 17 with a right shoulder impingement, though he began throwing off a mound July 8. He suffered a setback while building back up at the Blue Jays' player development complex and won't throw for at least a week and a half. The hitch in his recovery likely means he won't be back until mid-August at the earliest.

  • Francis (shoulder) resumed playing catch from 60-to-90 feet Friday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Francis landed on the 15-day injured list June 17 due to a right shoulder impingement. He was shut down from throwing after receiving a cortisone shot, but he has been given the green light to play catch and will look to progress enough in his recovery to start tossing bullpen sessions. Francis went 2-8 across 14 starts with a 6.05 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 54:27 K:BB in 64 innings prior to landing on the IL.

  • Francis did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies, allowing two runs on one hit and three walks with four strikeouts over 3.2 innings. Francis cruised through three scoreless innings but hit a wall in the fourth, allowing two runs while putting five straight batters on via walk or hit-by-pitch. The 29-year-old has now failed to complete four frames in three consecutive outings and hasn't delivered a quality start since May 10. On the season, he owns a 6.05 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 54:27 K:BB across 64 innings and can't be relied upon even in a favorable matchup against the White Sox next weekend.
