  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Homers in second straight game

Steer went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double against the Cubs in a loss Thursday.

Steer brought the Reds to within a run with his eighth-inning solo blast to center field, but that was as close as Cincinnati would get. The long ball was Steer's second in as many days and marked the sixth time in his past seven games that he's driven in at least one run. Over that span, the talented 25-year-old is batting .286 (8-for-28) with three homers, seven RBI and six runs.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Marlins' Josh Bell: Huge Miami debut

Bell went 4-for-5 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-8 extra-innings win over the Phillies.

The Marlins were shut out by Zack Wheeler through five innings, but Bell got them on the board with a solo shot in the sixth as he made an immediate impact for his new club. The 30-year-old's xBA (.275) and xSLG (.460) this season have been pacing well ahead of his actual production and are more in line with his career numbers, and if his bad luck in Cleveland didn't follow him to south Florida, Bell could prove to be a huge addition for Miami down the stretch as it chases a playoff spot.

Reds' Spencer Steer: Belts 16th homer

Steer went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Cubs on Wednesday.

Though Cincinnati would eventually be blown out, Steer set the team off on a positive note with his two-run blast in the first frame. It was his 16th long ball of the campaign, tied for fifth-most among MLB rookies. Steer's strong season also includes a .272/.357/.463 slash line, 22 doubles, 61 RBI, 54 runs and nine stolen bases through 105 contests.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Slugs two homers Wednesday

Votto went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.

Votto belted a solo shot to center field in the second inning and added a two-run blast in the fourth. He finished with multiple hits for the third straight game, a span in which he's gone 6-for-13 with three homers, four runs and seven RBI. The hot stretch follows a poor start to the second half, as Votto went 5-for-46 (.109 average) over his first 14 games following the All-Star break.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Three-hit effort in win

Flores went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Flores has hit safely in his last six games, and he has multiple hits in three of those contests. The infielder got the nod at designated hitter with Joc Pederson taking a start in left field Wednesday, though the Giants' outfield remains unpredictable on a game-by-game basis. Flores has been hot lately, which may force manager Gabe Kapler to make room for him in the lineup. Flores is at a .305/.360/.545 slash line with 14 home runs, 35 RBI, 34 runs scored and 17 doubles through 79 contests overall.

  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Takes hold of everyday role

Toglia will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Padres.

With the Rockies moving first baseman C.J. Cron and outfielder Randal Grichuk ahead of the trade deadline, Toglia appears to be temporarily locked into an everyday role, at least until Colorado gets the likes of Charlie Blackmon (hand) and Kris Bryant (finger) back from the injured list. Toglia will pick up his fifth straight start Wednesday and his 10th start in the last 11 games. He's hitting just .194 with two extra-base hits over his last 10 contests.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Mashes 31st homer

Alonso went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Royals.

The first baseman turned on a sub-90 mph sinker from Zack Greinke in the second inning and drove it over the fence in center field for a solo shot that got the Mets on the board, although they eventually lost 7-6. Alonso has regained his swagger at the plate, slashing .349/.396/.791 over the last 11 games with five homers and 15 RBI, and his 31 long balls on the season rank second in the NL behind Matt Olson's 36.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Four hits, steal in win

Freeman went 4-for-5 with a double, one RBI, one stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Athletics.

Freeman stole a base for his second consecutive game, giving him a career-high 14 on the year. The first baseman is also swinging a hot bat with eight multi-hit efforts over his last 13 games, batting .472 (25-for-53) in that span. He's up to a .334/.413/.580 slash line with 21 home runs, 74 RBI, 91 runs scored and 36 doubles through 105 contests. Freeman's .993 OPS trails only Shohei Ohtani (1.082) in the majors.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Clubs 10th homer

Wade went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Wade had gone 0-for-9 with two walks over his previous three games before getting back on track Tuesday. His seventh-inning solo shot ended up being the difference in the Giants' win, and it was his 10th homer of the year. The first baseman is up to a .267/.398/.421 slash line with 29 RBI, 45 runs scored and two stolen bases over 93 contests. He continues to occupy the leadoff spot versus right-handed pitchers.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Padres' Garrett Cooper: Sent to San Diego

The Padres acquired Cooper and Sean Reynolds from the Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for Ryan Weathers, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Cooper has a .722 OPS and 13 home runs in 82 games this season and will now make his way to San Diego. The 32-year-old could find himself in the short side of a platoon at designated hitter since the Friars also acquired the lefty-hitting Ji-Man Choi on Tuesday.
