  • Jared Young 1B | NYM

Cubs' Jared Young: Hits first MLB home run

Young went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.

Young started at DH and was eventually lifted for a pinch hitter, but not before he connected for his first MLB home run in the third inning against Aaron Nola. Young appeared in six games for the Cubs last season and Wednesday marked his 2023 debut. The 27-year-old looks mostly like organizational depth, though Chicago could give him some extended run at first base and DH if he's able to produce.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Launches 26th homer

Olson went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Twins.

Olson got Atlanta on the board with a two-out double in the bottom of the first to score Ronald Acuna. The first baseman then carried on with his home run tear in the eighth, launching a solo shot to center field to give his team a 3-0 lead. Olson now has five home runs in his last six games to go along with 10 RBI and seven runs scored. His 26 long balls on the season currently lead the National League.

  • Kody Clemens 1B | MIN

Phillies' Kody Clemens: Not in lineup Wednesday

Clemens is absent from the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.

Chicago is throwing left-hander Drew Smyly, so Alec Bohm will cover first base and bat sixth with Edmundo Sosa handling third base and hitting eighth. Clemens is 3-for-19 with zero extra-base hits in limited action this year versus southpaws.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Hitless in return

Cron went 0-for-3 on Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Cron returned from a six-week absence caused by back spasms. He served as the designated hitter and hit fifth while Elehuris Montero stuck in the lineup at first base. Lefty Clayton Kershaw was on the mound, pushing Nolan Jones to the bench, though he is likely to swap places with Montero when facing righties.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Three hits in Fenway

Cooper went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.

The first baseman played a big role in the Marlins' 10-run, 19-hit eruption. Cooper has hit safely in six straight games, and over his last 16 contests the 32-year-old is slashing .322/.365/.525 with three doubles, three homers, five runs and 12 RBI.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Swipes third bag

Alonso went 0-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.

The slugger made the most of a hit by pitch in the sixth inning, swiping second base and then coming home on a Tommy Pham double. Alonso isn't known for his exploits on the basepaths, but he's 3-for-3 on steal attempts this season and 11-for-12 since 2021. Since returning from a wrist injury June 18, he's gone just 5-for-35 (.143) at the plate, but four of the hits (two doubles and two homers) have gone for extra bases.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Pirates' Carlos Santana: Three hits, homer in win

Santana went 3-for-5 with an RBI single, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's win over San Diego.

Santana put the Pirates ahead 4-3 with a home run off Reiss Knehr to lead off the third inning, his seventh of the season. Santana would drive in a second run with an RBI single in the sixth. It's the first multi-hit game since June 17 for the veteran first baseman -- he'd gone 4-for-27 (.148) over his previous seven contests. Overall, Santana is slashing .233/.316/.380 with 39 RBI, 32 runs scored and six stolen bases through 294 plate appearances this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Knocks 16th homer

Walker went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Rays.

Walker went back-to-back with Corbin Carroll in the first inning as the Diamondbacks enjoyed a hot start. During Walker's 11-game hitting streak, he's gone 18-for-43 (.419) with three homers, six doubles and 12 RBI. The first baseman is enjoying one of the best stretches of his career, which has him up to a .281/.345/.528 slash line with 16 homers, 54 RBI, 43 runs scored and four stolen bases over 76 contests overall.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Back from IL

The Giants reinstated Flores (foot) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

San Francisco sent infielder Isan Diaz back to Triple-A Sacramento to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Flores, who spent the minimum amount of time on the shelf due to the left foot contusion. Now that he's healthy again, Flores should step back into a short-side platoon role in the Giants infield.

  • Jared Young 1B | NYM

Cubs' Jared Young: Selected from Iowa

The Cubs selected Young from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Young has been outstanding in Triple-A this season, slashing .333/.431/.619 with 13 homers and 45 RBI through 205 plate appearances. He's recorded a hit in all but three of his games since the start of June and will now look to carry his momentum into the majors. With the Cubs searching for answers at first base, it's possible Young sees a good amount of playing time early on.
