  • Padres' Brandon Dixon: Starting in right field Tuesday

Dixon is starting in right field and batting ninth Tuesday against the Mets.

Dixon was called up from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday and will make his first major-league appearance of the season Tuesday versus the Mets and left-handed starter David Peterson. The 31-year-old is a versatile defender but carries a rough .228/.269/.407 career big-league batting line.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Accounts for lone run in loss

Flores went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 9-1 loss to the Dodgers.

Flores tagged Julio Urias for a solo shot in the fourth inning, but that was it for the Giants' offense. Through eight games, Flores has gone 6-for-21 (.286) with two homers, two doubles, four RBI and six runs scored. He remains an option primarily against left-handed pitchers, though he's also often one of the first bats off the bench when opposing teams bring in southpaw relievers to follow righty starters.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Goes deep in win

Walker went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 3-0 win over the Brewers.

Walker broke an 0-for-17 skid Sunday with a double and followed up with Monday's homer, his second of the season. He's scuffled since opening the season with a four-game hit streak, and the struggles are well deserved. The first baseman is among the lowest in the league in average exit velocity (81.2 MPH) and hard-hit rate (20.6 percent).

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Drives in six runs

Bohm went 3-for-5 with a home run, six RBI and two runs scored in Monday's win over Miami.

Bohm knocked a two-run single in the third inning followed by another RBI base hit in the fifth. He topped off his big day with a three-run blast in the sixth frame. The 26-year-old is slashing .351/.415/.649 with 11 RBI and five extra-base hits this season. Bohm totaled just three hits over his previous five games.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Returns to lineup

Cron (illness) will start at first base and bat cleanup in Monday's game against the Cardinals.

Cron didn't play the previous two days because he was under the weather, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Monday. He went 7-for-11 with three home runs, two doubles, two walks and seven RBI over the Rockies' first three games but fell into a 1-for-20 skid at the plate before missing time with the illness.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Swats third homer

Cooper went 2-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Sunday's win over the Mets.

His fifth-inning blast helped send Carlos Carrasco to the showers, and it gave Cooper his third homer in nine games to begin the season. The 32-year-old hasn't been known as a significant power threat in his career -- he slugged only nine homers in 119 games last season, and his career high is 15 long balls set back in 2019 -- but with a regular spot in the heart of the Marlins' order, Cooper could be poised for a career-best campaign.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Nationals' Dominic Smith: On base three times Sunday

Smith went 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBI in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

The first baseman is still looking for his first big-league homer since 2021, but otherwise Smith has had a solid start to his Nationals career. Through eight games, he'd batting .290 (9-for-31) with three runs, four RBI and a 4:5 BB:K.

  • Padres' Brandon Dixon: Gets call to majors

The Padres recalled Dixon from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

He'll join the big-league roster as a replacement for outfielder David Dahl, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right quadriceps strain. Like Dahl, Dixon is capable of playing the corner outfield, but the 31-year-old also has prior experience at three infield spots (first base, third base and second base).

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Gets first off day of season

Wade is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

With southpaw Kris Bubic twirling for the Royals, Wade will join fellow lefty hitters Mike Yastrzemski, Blake Sabol and Joc Pederson on the bench as manager Gabe Kapler rolls out a righty-heavy lineup. Wilmer Flores will spell Wade at first base, batting second.

  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Giants' Matt Beaty: Optioned to Sacramento

The Giants optioned Beaty to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Beaty was sent down with Heliot Ramos receiving the promotion to the Giants in his place. As Pavlovic notes, the Giants could face five left-handers over the next week, and Ramos' right-handed bat serves more of a purpose than Beaty's left-handed swing in that context. The 29-year-old infielder will likely be up and down throughout the 2023 season.
