  • Diamondbacks' Asdrubal Cabrera: Starts in field

Cabrera started at first base and went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Angels.

This was Cabrera's first start in the field since he returned from the injured list June 4. He served as a pinch hitter for his first four appearances then as the designated hitter Thursday. The veteran infielder is hitless in 11 at-bats with a sacrifice fly since his return.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Cranks sixth homer

Cronenworth went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Mets.

Cronenworth got San Diego on the board with his blast off Mets reliever Miguel Castro in the seventh inning. The long ball was Cronenworth's first since May 21. The versatile infielder is slashing .276/.344/.412 with six homers, 20 RBI, 39 runs scored and three stolen bases across 272 plate appearances.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Homers in back-to-back games

Votto went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and four RBI in Friday's 11-5 win over Colorado.

Votto solidified Cincinnati's lead with a three-run blast in the third inning. He also drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth for his fourth RBI of the game. He's hit two long balls and added six RBI in four games since he returned from a thumb injury. The first baseman is slashing .220/.313/.449 with seven homers, 23 RBI and 11 runs scored through 134 plate appearances.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Goes deep in win

Rizzo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's win over the Cardinals.

Rizzo made his lone hit count, connecting for his seventh home run of the season in the sixth inning. The slugging first baseman isn't delivering his usual power production, though he's chugging along with a .308 batting average this month. If he keeps making consistent contact, expect more balls to leave the yard in short order.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Diamondbacks' Kole Calhoun: Hopes to return this month

Calhoun (hamstring) is aiming to return from the 60-day injured list when first eligible June 27 in San Diego, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.

He has been sidelined since April 27 but could be back this month. Calhoun is in the final year of a two-year, $16 million contract that includes a team option for 2022. With Arizona in last place in the NL West, the team will likely look to shop Calhoun at the trade deadline. The 33-year-old hit .292/.333/.479 with two home runs and one steal in 13 games prior to suffering the injury.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Heads to bench

Flores is not starting Friday against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Flores sits after going hitless in his last three starts. Jason Vosler starts at third base in his absence.

  • P.J. Higgins 1B | CIN

Cubs' P.J. Higgins: Out with strained forearm

Higgins landed on the injured list with a strained right forearm Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Higgins had been serving as the backup catcher in the absence of Austin Romine (wrist) but didn't do much in his limited action, going 1-for-23 at the plate. The Cubs will now have to turn to fourth-string backstop Jose Lobaton, whose contract was selected in a corresponding move, to back up Willson Contreras. It's not yet clear when the team expects Higgins to return.

  • Braves' Freddie Freeman: Swats clutch homer

Freeman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Thursday against the Phillies.

Freeman provided one of the few offensive bright spots for Atlanta when he took Hector Neris deep in the ninth inning to tie the game. It was his 14th home run of the season, but only his second in his last 18 starts. Freeman is uncharacteristically hitting just .228 across 260 plate appearances on the campaign, but he is striking out at only a 17.7 percent. He's also chipped in 39 runs and 33 RBI.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Cranks sixth homer

Votto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's loss to the Brewers.

Votto got the Reds on the board by taking Freddy Peralta deep in the second inning. It was the sixth long ball of the year for the 37-year-old, who collected a pair of walks in his return from a month-long stint on the injured list Wednesday after dealing with a thumb injury. Despite a slow start to the season, Votto was heating up before the injury and will look to continue that success now that he's healthy.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Takes seat Thursday

Flores isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

Flores had started each of the last three games but went 0-for-12 with two walks and two strikeouts during that time. Jason Vosler will start at the hot corner and bat eighth.
