Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Starting Game 1

Tellez (knee) is batting fifth and playing first base in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Pirates.

The 26-year-old was limited the past few days by right knee discomfort, but he's back in action Saturday afternoon. Tellez has gone 8-for-28 with a home run and six RBI since the beginning of August.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Lines two doubles

Cron went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a strikeout as Colorado was defeated by San Francisco on Friday.

Cron singled home a run in the first and doubled in the sixth and eighth to record his second three-hit game this month. The slugging first baseman has opened August hot, going 15-for-36 with four home runs and two doubles in 10 games.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Swats 15th homer

Flores went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a strikeout in a 5-4 triumph over the Rockies on Friday.

Flores took Colorado starter Austin Gomber deep to left center in the first inning to give San Francisco an early lead and later tacked on a single in the seventh. Following an 0-for-9 stretch across six games, the infielder is 3-for-8 with a double and a homer across his last two contests.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Displays power Friday

Dalbec went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBI in Friday's 8-1 win over Baltimore.

The first baseman has produced multiple hits in each of his last three starts, going 7-for-11 with a home run, a triple, two doubles and nine RBI in that span. Dalbec hasn't been particularly effective for much of the year with a .229/.281/.422 slash line, but he's beginning to find a groove at the plate. The 26-year-old has added 12 homers, 49 RBI and 30 runs scored across 324 plate appearances. Dalbec will likely compete with Franchy Cordero and Kyle Schwarber for starts at first base.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Smacks 26th long ball

Votto went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 6-1 win over Philadelphia.

While he's cooled off a bit from his historic power-hitting run in late July, the first baseman has still homered five times in his last 11 games. Votto opened the scoring Friday with his fourth-inning blast, giving him 26 home runs on the year. Fifteen of those homers have come since the All-Star break. He sports a sturdy .285/.375/.585 slash line with 75 RBI, 48 runs scored and a stolen base through 365 plate appearances overall.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Departs with thumb injury

Diaz left Friday's game against the Twins in the bottom of the sixth inning due to a left thumb sprain, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Diaz exited the game with a trainer after he was banged up on a fielding play with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Prior to his departure, he had gone 1-for-3 with a solo home run. The 30-year-old will be further evaluated to determine his status for Saturday's game against Minnesota, but he should be considered day-to-day.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Not starting Friday

Wade isn't in the lineup Friday against the Rockies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Wade is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak, and he's homered in each of the last two contests. However, he'll get a breather while Kris Bryant, Austin Slater and Mike Yastrzemski start in the outfield from left to right.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Could return Saturday

Gurriel (neck) could return to action Saturday against the Angels, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

He was originally expected to be back Friday, but he needs at least one more day. Aledmys Diaz will start at first base while Jacob Wilson starts at the hot corner.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Still out Friday

Gurriel (neck) is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

It was reported Aug. 10 that Gurriel was likely to return Friday, but he apparently needs at least one more day to get right. Aledmys Diaz will start at first base and bat fifth.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Sitting against southpaw

Smith is not in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

Smith is actually hitting much better against lefties than righties this season (.848 OPS versus LHP, .648 OPS versus RHP), but he'll nonetheless take a seat Friday with Julio Urias pitching for Los Angeles. Kevin Pillar will start in left field and bat seventh for New York.
