White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Stuck on bench again

Vaughn will sit Thursday against the Royals.

The White Sox elected to include Vaughn on the Opening Day roster rather than manipulate his service time, but that evidently didn't mean they saw him as an everyday player. Yermin Mercedes' hot start has meant Vaughn hasn't made a single start as the designated hitter, and he's started just four of eight games in left field. Nick Williams will start in his place Thursday.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: Unlikely to require IL stint

White (quadriceps) underwent an MRI on Thursday and is unlikely to require time on the injured list, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

White exited Wednesday's game against the White Sox due to a left quadriceps strain, and he'll have two days to recover since he's sitting out Thursday prior to Friday's scheduled off day. The Mariners will evaluate how White is feeling after Friday's day off before determining when he'll be ready to return.

Mariners' Evan White: Not in Thursday's lineup

White (quadriceps) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

White was expected to be unavailable Thursday after he suffered a left quadriceps strain Wednesday against the White Sox. Jose Marmolejos will officially take over at first base for the series opener against Minnesota, batting fourth.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Gets breather Thursday

Cron isn't starting Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Cron started each of his first six games with Colorado and went 4-for-21 with two doubles, five runs, one RBI and seven strikeouts. Josh Fuentes will take over at first base for Thursday's series finale against Arizona, batting sixth.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Hits first double of season

Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a double in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Texas.

The righty slugger is off to a strong start, hitting .316 through 19 at-bats as the five-hole hitter. He's done well despite the struggles of Teoscar Hernandez and Lourdes Gurriel, both of whom have been slumping ahead of him in the order. Slimmer than he was a year ago, Guerrero appears to be benefiting from a more contact-based approach at the plate, and the move to first base has allowed him to focus more on his swing and less on fielding at the hot corner. This could be the year he puts it all together at the plate.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Indians' Josh Naylor: Singles twice in win

Naylor went 2-for-4 with two singles in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Kansas City.

The outfielder has now hit safely in four of five games this season, standing out in the middle of an otherwise unremarkable Cleveland lineup. Naylor struggled to the tune of a .230 average after being dealt from San Diego last season, but his bat has shown promise thus far in 2021 and he looks locked into a starting role.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Two hits in return

Dalbec returned to the lineup and went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 9-2 win over Tampa Bay.

Dalbec opened the season 0-for-10 with five strikeouts, which resulted in two straight days off before Wednesday's game. The young prospect took some time to work on his mechanics after getting advice from fellow slugger J.D. Martinez, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. "We talked [Sunday] about his swing and his hips, and I showed it to him on the video, and it's such a big difference," Martinez said. "He's going to be working on this stuff, what we talked about. All I can do is show him what I see, and hopefully it resonates with him." The veteran's guidance appears to have helped, as Dalbec made contact in all four plate appearances and delivered a pair of singles, including one struck at 100.9 mph.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Enters game in sixth inning

Vaughn entered Wednesday's game in the sixth inning after left fielder Billy Hamilton was removed due to a hamstring injury. He went 1-for-2 in an 8-4 loss to the Mariners.

The White Sox have been hit with a spate of injuries that have thinned the corps in left field, opening up at-bats for Vaughn as an outfielder and potentially giving him position eligibility there. Adam Engel (hamstring) was already on the injured list, and he's now been joined by shortstop Tim Anderson (hamstring), which means the multi-positional Leury Garcia will be needed in the infield. And now Hamilton is sidelined, although the severity of the injury is not known.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: Likely unavailable Thursday

White (quadriceps) isn't expected to play Thursday against the Twins, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

The 24-year-old suffered a left quadriceps strain Wednesday against the White Sox, and he'll likely take a seat Thursday with a scheduled off day to follow Friday. Jose Marmolejos could see time at first base in White's absence for Seattle.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Productive in Wednesday's win

Bohm went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Mets.

His first-inning blast was his first home run and extra-base hit of the season, while his steal later in the game was his second of the year. Bohm has a modest four-game hit streak going and five RBI in six games overall, but it's his early display of speed after stealing only one base in 44 games last year as a rookie that has carried the most fantasy intrigue.
