  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

    Marlins' Josh Bell: Keeps raking

Bell went 3-for-4 with an RBI during Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Rays.

Bell has generated at least one hit in eight consecutive contests, with Wednesday's performance his third three-hit game during that span. The first baseman drove in Vidal Brujan on a fifth-inning single, marking Bell's 30th RBI of the campaign. Through 262 plate appearances, Bell owns a .716 OPS and a 19.1 percent strikeout rate, down from 21.8 percent in 2023.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Hits sixth homer

Schanuel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Padres.

Schanuel hit a leadoff homer in the first inning on Dylan Cease's fifth pitch of the game. Prior to Wednesday, Schanuel was stuck in an 0-for-18 rut, adding just one walk and one hit-by-pitch in that span. The first baseman hasn't done much this year with a .216/.287/.330 slash line, six homers, 19 RBI, 18 runs scored and no stolen bases over 218 plate appearances. While the 22-year-old hasn't hit well, he's yet to slip down the order from the leadoff spot he's occupied for much of the campaign.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Twins' Carlos Santana: Ends perfect-game bid with homer

Santana went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Yankees on Wednesday.

Santana's sixth-inning solo shot was a faint murmur of protest with New York up big, but it did put an end to opposing starter Carlos Rodon's run of retiring 16-straight batters. The long ball was just the second for the veteran slugger since he homered in three straight contests May 10-12. Santana has nine home runs overall on the campaign and is slashing .217/.302/.392 with 24 RBI, 19 runs and a stolen base.

  • Kris Bryant RF | COL

Rockies' Kris Bryant: IL stint expected

The Rockies will likely place Bryant (back) on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Wednesday marked the third game in a row Bryant missed due to his sore back, which has not responded well to treatment. He will likely be joined on the IL by Sean Bouchard (ankle), and the Rockies will presumably call up a couple of minor leaguers to fill the openings in their outfield. Injuries have limited Bryant to just 24 games so far this season, during which he's slashed .186/.307/.279 with 10 RBI.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Drives in five in win

Flores went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run and five RBI in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

The Giants launched three homers on the day, but Flores' grand slam off Jordan Montgomery in the third inning proved to be the biggest blow. Flores snapped a 21-game homer drought with the blast, but that May 4 shot was his only other homer on the season. The 32-year-old's five RBI on Wednesday equaled his total from his prior 26 games combined.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Sitting second straight

Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Soderstrom appeared to have taken hold of a regular role at first base against right-handed pitching, but he's sitting Wednesday for the second straight game versus a righty (Logan Gilbert). J.D. Davis will receive another start at first base and bat sixth.

  • Kris Bryant RF | COL

Rockies' Kris Bryant: IL decision looming

Rockies manager Bud Black said that Bryant (back) could be placed on the injured list if he doesn't show significant improvement by the end of the day Wednesday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Bryant is missing a third straight start Wednesday with lingering back soreness after he ran into the protective netting during the team's previous series against the Dodgers. The 32-year-old missed time earlier this season with a back injury and also was absent for a large chunk of the 2022 campaign with back problems.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Aims for return around July 1

Casas (ribs) said Wednesday in an interview with NESN that he should be cleared to swing a bat before the end of the week.

Casas noted earlier this week that he's still experiencing some discomfort in his ribs when he rotates, but the 24-year-old expects to progress enough in the coming days to try swinging a bat. The first baseman still has several hurdles to clear in the recovery process before being ready for game action, but he said in his interview that he's hoping to be activated from the 60-day injured list "right around July 1."

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | TEX

Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting versus lefty

Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

After he had began to lose out on regular playing time toward the end of May, the lefty-hitting Tellez has started in each of the last four games against right-handed pitching. Tellez still remains in a platoon at first base with Connor Joe, however, and Tellez will take a seat Wednesday while the Dodgers bring southpaw James Paxton to the hill.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Starting again, but stuck in platoon

Flores will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Flores is starting at first base for the fourth time in five games, but all but one of those starts have come against left-handed pitchers. Even with top first baseman LaMonte Wade (hamstring) on the injured list, Flores looks as though he'll remain in the short side of a platoon while recent call-up Trenton Brooks gets the opportunity to make regular starts at the position versus righties.
