J.D. Davis 1B | LAA
Athletics' J.D. Davis: Getting breather Saturday
Davis is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros.
He will begin Saturday's game on the bench after four consecutive starts. Davis recorded a hit in each of those four games, going 7-for-16 with two home runs and three RBI over that span. Brent Rooker will serve as the designated hitter Saturday while Tyler Soderstrom starts at first base against right-hander Spencer Arrighetti.

Jonathan Singleton DH | HOU
Astros' Jon Singleton: Sitting vs. southpaw
Singleton is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Athletics.
With the Athletics sending out left-hander JP Sears for Saturday's contest, Singleton will begin the game in the dugout while the righty-hitting Mauricio Dubon draws the start at first base. Over his last 10 games, Singleton has gone 8-for-34 with five runs, one home run and four RBI.

LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Battling hamstring issue
Manager Bob Melvin said Saturday that Wade tweaked his hamstring during the ninth inning of Friday's win over the Mets, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Melvin noted that the Giants consider Wade's injury to be minor, but they have decided not to push their luck and will keep him out of the lineup for Saturday's contest. Wilmer Flores will cover first base and bat fifth while Wade recovers.

Rowdy Tellez 1B | TEX
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting Saturday
Tellez isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday against Atlanta, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Although the Pirates will be facing a right-hander in Reynaldo Lopez, the left-handed Tellez will step out of the lineup. The 29-year-old is slashing just .175/.242/.225 through 132 plate appearances, so it's possible he's losing his grip on the starting job at first base. Connor Joe will get the nod at first while Edward Olivares starts in right field.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 1B | TOR
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: On base three times Friday
Guerrero went 2-for-3 with a walk and a double in Friday's loss to the Tigers.
It marks the fourth time in the last seven games that Guerrero has banged out multiple hits. The first baseman has put a sluggish start to the season behind him, and over the last month he's slashing .382/.455/.517 in 23 games with two homers, a steal, 13 runs and 14 RBI.

Spencer Torkelson 1B | DET
Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Resting Saturday
Torkelson isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against Toronto, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Torkelson will get a day to clear his head after going 0-for-16 across his last five contests. Mark Canha will cover first base for the Tigers on Saturday, moving Colt Keith into the DH spot while Zach McKinstry starts at second.

Pete Alonso 1B | BAL
Mets' Pete Alonso: Slugs 12th homer
Alonso went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's 8-7 loss to the Giants.
Another bullpen meltdown wasted a big night from the Mets' offense, as Alonso's seventh-inning solo shot off Nick Avila was New York's third homer of the game. The first baseman extended his hitting streak to nine games, and over the last 15 contests Alonso is slashing .313/.362/.609 with four of his 12 homers on the season and 10 of his 26 RBI.

Dominic Smith 1B | ATL
Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Swats first homer of 2024
Smith went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Brewers.
He took Bryse Wilson deep in the sixth inning for his first long ball of the year. Smith has taken over a starting role while Garrett Cooper deals with a slump and a sore shoulder, and Smith has responded by batting .281 (9-for-32) over his last 10 games with two doubles and eight RBI.

Triston Casas 1B | BOS
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Taking grounders
Casas (ribs) took grounders at first base Friday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Casas began throwing during Boston's previous homestand and has also been running and lifting. The next step for Casas will be swinging a bat, which requires rotation and puts more stress on the ribs and torso. No target date has been set for that yet.

Connor Joe RF | SEA
Pirates' Connor Joe: Scores three runs
Joe went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored Friday against Atlanta.
Joe doubled in the first and third innings and came around to score on each occasion. The performance marked his first multi-hit game in his last six starts and his first extra-base knock in eight contests. With Jack Suwinski optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Joe's status as a regular in the lineup should be cemented.
