Tyler Soderstrom 1B | OAK
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Plays catch Wednesday
Soderstrom (wrist) played catch before Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, the Associated Press reports.
Soderstrom began his strengthening program earlier this week and Wednesday's activity was part of his progression. There's still no word on when the rookie might be able to get some swings in rehab games, but he still seems to be well on track to return to the big-league roster before the end of the regular season.

Patrick Wisdom 1B | CHC
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Continuing to see limited work
Wisdom is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.
The 32-year-old has started in just three of the Cubs' 18 games thus far in August and is expected to continue seeing limited usage while Michael Busch and Isaac Paredes are healthy and entrenched as the team's everyday starters in the corner infield. Wisdom has logged three straight seasons of 20-plus home runs, but he's slugged just six long balls so far in 2024 while receiving only 135 plate appearances.

Paul Goldschmidt 1B | STL
Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Grabbing seat Thursday
Goldschmidt is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Goldschmidt went 1-for-9 with four strikeouts in the first two games of the series and will now begin the rubber match on the bench. The Cardinals will go with Alec Burleson at first base.

Yandy Diaz 1B | TB
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Piling up hits
Diaz went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI against the Athletics on Wednesday.
Diaz suffered an injury scare Sunday after being hit by a pitch in the arm, but he didn't miss any action and went 4-for-11 with two doubles in the Rays' ensuing three-game series against Oakland. Diaz has had a strong month of August, maintaining a .297 average with six RBI and eight runs scored across 18 games.

Andres Chaparro DH | WAS
Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Out of lineup Thursday
Chaparro is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Rockies, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Chaparro will get his first day off since being called up from Triple-A Rochester on Aug. 13, as he had started each of the last eight games. Joey Gallo will handle first base for the Nationals, while Juan Yepez will serve as the designated hitter.

Joey Gallo 1B | WAS
Nationals' Joey Gallo: Drives in run in Wednesday's start
Gallo went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Rockies.
Getting his first start since coming off the IL on Monday, Gallo handled first base and batted eighth, and he drove in the Nationals' first run of the night in the second inning with a one-out double. Juan Yepez has a .194/.250/.258 slash line in August, which could open the door for Gallo to see semi-consistent playing time, but the 30-year-old is a free agent in the offseason and almost certainly won't be in the team's future plans.

Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Beginning assignment over weekend
Rizzo (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset during the weekend, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Rizzo will serve as a designated hitter for the first several games of his assignment before eventually moving back to first base. The Yankees haven't said how long the 35-year-old will remain in the minors, though he figures to return to New York sometime in early September.

Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Closing in on rehab assignment
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that the team has discussed sending Rizzo (forearm) out on a rehab assignment, though no decision has been reached as to when it would begin, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Rizzo would serve as a designated hitter initially on the rehab assignment before eventually playing time first base. The 35-year-old has been on the injured list since mid-June with a fractured right forearm and is likely trending toward an early September return.

Juan Yepez 1B | WAS
Nationals' Juan Yepez: Sitting amid rough patch
Yepez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
Yepez will head to the bench for the second time in three games while he's gone just 2-for-26 at the dish over his last eight contests, bringing his slash line down to .279/.331/.422 over 163 plate appearances since getting a call-up to Washington on July 4. His recent struggles could cost him a regular spot in the lineup against right-handed pitching, as Joey Gallo looms as a potential alternative following his return from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Gallo will fill in for Yepez at first base in Wednesday's contest.
