Nationals' Dominic Smith: Sitting out nightcap
Smith isn't in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
After a 3-for-4 performance during Game 1 of Tuesday's action, Smith will catch a breather for the second game. Joey Meneses will fill in at first base, moving Keibert Ruiz into the DH spot and Riley Adams in behind the dish while batting fifth.

Carlos Santana 1B | ARI
Brewers' Carlos Santana: Out with illness
Santana isn't starting Tuesday against Colorado due to illness, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Santana is slashing .167/.205/.310 with two homers and three RBI across 10 games as a Brewer. He'll be considered day-to-day as he fights off his illness, and Mark Canha will step in as Milwaukee's first baseman Tuesday.

Jonathan Singleton DH | HOU
Astros' Jon Singleton: Selected to MLB roster
The Astros selected Singleton's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Singleton had slashed .333/.446/.692 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI through 33 games this summer for Sugar Land. He is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Orioles and could struggle to carve out regular playing time, but the 31-year-old should be a useful bat off the bench. He last appeared in a major-league game for the Astros way back in 2015, but he did suit up for 11 games with the Brewers earlier this season and produced a .103/.188/.138 slash line across 32 plate appearances over 11 games.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Sitting against lefty
Votto is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.
Christian Encarnacion-Strand will start at first base and bat seventh with the Marlins throwing left-hander Braxton Garrett. Kevin Newman is serving as the Reds' designated hitter and batting fifth. Votto will grab some rest after hitting his second homer in as many days in Monday's series opener versus Miami.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Goes deep again
Votto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-2 win over Miami.
Votto launched his second home run in as many games. It was the second of back-to-back shots to lead off the fourth inning. The slugging first baseman's last four hits have all been home runs and nearly half his knocks this season -- 13 of 27 -- have left ballparks.

Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL
White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Swats homer in win
Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's 5-1 win against the Yankees.
Vaughn gave Chicago an early lead with a two-run shot off Gerrit Cole in the second inning, and the Yankees never managed to catch up. The long ball extended Vaughn's modest hitting streak to five games, during which he has slashed .412/.412/.824 with a pair of homers and three RBI. The first baseman is up to 15 home runs on the campaign, two shy of the career-high mark he set last season.
-
Pete Alonso 1B | BAL
Mets' Pete Alonso: Crushes Cubs with two homers
Alonso went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and six RBI in Monday's 11-2 win against the Cubs.
Alonso provided muscle early, slamming a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run shot in the third. The first baseman finished his productive day with a run-scoring single in the eighth. The six RBI tied a career high, and the multi-homer effort was his fourth of the campaign. Alonso ranks third in the majors in both home runs (33) and RBI (83) on the season.

LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Gets day off against southpaw
Wade is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.
Wade will join fellow left-handed hitters Brandon Crawford and Joc Pederson on the bench while the Giants stock up on some extra right-handed bats to counter Angels southpaw Patrick Sandoval. Wilmer Flores will receive the starting nod at first base while Wade ducks out of the lineup.

Jonathan Singleton DH | HOU
Astros' Jon Singleton: Set to be recalled Tuesday
Singleton is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
It has been eight years since Singleton last played for the Astros, but it appears he will get a chance to show what he can do at the top level for the first time since rejoining Houston in late June. Singleton appeared in 11 big-league games with the Brewers earlier this year but posted just a .326 OPS.
