  • Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL

Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Riding pine Saturday

Rivas isn't starting Saturday against Cincinnati.

Rivas has started against just three left-handed pitchers this year, and he'll be on the bench for a third consecutive game with southpaw Nick Lodolo starting for the Reds. David Bote is taking over at first base and batting seventh.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Launches solo home run

Olson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two total runs scored in Friday's victory over the Mets.

Olson's solo shot came in the second inning as the second of back-to-back homers with Austin Riley. He later scored on an Eddie Rosario sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. It was Olson's 31st homer of the season and his fourth in September. Friday's two-hit game extended his hitting streak to five games. During that span, the first baseman has gone 7-for-17 (.411). Prior to this recent streak, Olson had picked up just eight hits in his previous 20 games.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Sitting again Friday

Wade is not in Friday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

Wade has not played since Sept. 25, and he is on the bench Friday even with the platoon advantage against Merrill Kelly. Jason Vosler is starting at first base and hitting eighth.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Good to go

Diaz (shoulder) will bat leadoff and serve as the designated hitter Friday against the Astros, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Shoulder soreness has kept Diaz out of the starting lineup since Sept. 19, and he made just one appearance off the bench during that time. He won't take the field just yet but is evidently healthy enough to hit.

  • Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL

Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Out of lineup Friday

Rivas will sit Friday versus the Reds.

Rivas will remain on the bench for a second game in a row Friday. P.J. Higgins will replace him at first base and bat eighth against Cincinnati.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Moves to IL

Cooper (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

He is done for the season due to a fractured left finger. The 31-year-old split time evenly this year between first base and designated hitter and is under team control for one more season. Cooper's .261/.337/.415 slash line with nine home runs in 119 games was a little below his previous norms, although he set a new career best in games played.

  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Reds' Donovan Solano: Starting at first base Friday

Solano (eye) is starting Friday's game against the Cubs.

Solano was out of the lineup for the last six games due to an eye infection, but he appeared as a pinch hitter Wednesday against the Pirates and was hit by a pitch during his lone plate appearance. He'll start at first base and bat fifth during Friday's series opener against the Cubs.

  • Darick Hall 1B | PIT

Phillies' Darick Hall: Called up Friday

Hall was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Hall will return to the big leagues after being sent down Aug. 22. The 27-year-old has posted a .264 batting average with nine homers, 16 RBI and 19 runs scored over 129 at-bats over 38 games with the Phillies this season. Yairo Munoz was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Rangers' Kole Calhoun: Makes contribution off bench

Calhoun hit an RBI single and stole a base in Thursday's 10-9 extra-innings loss to the Mariners.

Calhoun pinch hit for Mark Mathias in the 10th inning and briefly put the Rangers ahead 8-7. The RBI single was Calhoun's first hit since Sept. 12, a slump which has seen him lose hold of an everyday role on a team far out of contention. The outfielder now has a .201/.261/.338 slash line with 12 home runs, three steals, 48 RBI and 36 runs scored through 120 contests in 2022.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Hits solo shot in loss

Lowe went 1-for-6 with a solo home run in Thursday's 10-9 loss to the Mariners in extra innings.

Lowe didn't have a great game, but he was able to get the Rangers within a run with his seventh-inning blast. He'd gone 10 games without a homer, batting .263 with just two RBI and three runs scored in that span. The first baseman is up to 26 long balls on the year while adding 74 RBI, 71 runs scored, two stolen bases, 26 doubles, three triples and a .304/.357/.496 slash line through 150 contests.
