  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

    Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Sitting Friday

Cooper (calf) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Cooper's removal from Thursday's contest due to calf tightness was labeled precautionary, but he'll still end up being held out of the lineup for at least one more game. Jesus Aguilar will serve as the designated hitter while Lewin Diaz starts at first base.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: On bench against lefty

Tellez isn't starting Friday against the Cardinals.

Tellez will be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game with southpaw Jordan Montgomery on the mound for the Cardinals. Keston Hiura is starting at first base and batting sixth.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Tallies three hits, scores twice

Gurriel went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored Thursday against the Rangers.

Gurriel struggled across his last six games entering Thursday by tallying only one hit across his previous 21 at-bats. He ended that skid with singles to lead off both the fifth and seventh innings and came around to score on both occasions. Across 403 plate appearances this season, Gurriel is hitting .240 with seven home runs, 31 RBI, and 39 runs scored.

  • Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Showing consistent power

Pasquantino went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk Thursday against the White Sox.

Pasquantino continued his recent power surge, taking Dylan Cease yard in the second inning to tally his third homer in his last four games. He has at least one hit in eight of his last 10 starts, maintaining a .324 average with five RBI and four runs scored in that span. After taking some time to adjust to the big-league level, Pasquantino has six homers across 162 plate appearances and a .246/.333/.408 line.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Slugs 12th homer

Vaughn went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Thursday against the Royals.

Vaughn took Scott Barlow yard to lead off the ninth inning to tally his 12th homer of the season. It was also Vaughn's fifth multi-hit game in his last 10 starts, and he's maintained a .368 average with two homers, four RBI and five runs scored in that span. For the season, Vaughn has a .297/.347/.468 line across 377 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Homers, doubles in loss

Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, two runs scored and three RBI in an 8-6 loss Thursday in Colorado.

Goldschmidt doubled and scored in the fourth and smacked a two-run homer in the eighth as the Cardinals attempted to mount a comeback. The 34-year-old didn't homer until the 19th game of the season, and Thursday's knock was his 27th of the season to go along with 31 doubles. Since the All-Star break, he's posted a .339/.424/.768 line with seven homers and 17 RBI in 15 games.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Exits as precautionary measure

Cooper was removed from Thursday's win over the Phillies as a precautionary measure due to calf tightness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Cooper's calf tightened up while running to first base in the sixth inning Thursday, and he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the eighth. Although manager Don Mattingly called Cooper's exit precautionary, the team will monitor the 31-year-old ahead of Friday's series opener against Atlanta.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

    Mariners' Evan White: Rehabbing again

White (sports hernia) resumed his rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday and has gone 1-for-6 with a home run while playing both of the past two days.

White is restarting his rehab program for the third time, after previously being pulled off assignments in early June and then again in mid-June after suffering setbacks in his recovery from the sports hernia surgery he underwent in late March. The 2022 campaign is shaping up to be a lost season for White, and even if he remains free of setbacks moving forward, the Mariners are likely to keep him on his rehab assignment for an extended period since there isn't an opening for him to play on an everyday basis for the big club.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Activated from IL, sent down

Smith (ankle) was activated from the 10-day injured list Thursday and was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

After missing three weeks with a right ankle sprain, Smith will remain with Syracuse after going 4-for-17 with an RBI and two runs scored over five games during his rehab assignment. The 27-year-old will likely be a top option to get called up to the big leagues down the stretch, though his .194/.276/.284 slash line over 134 at-bats in 58 games with the Mets this year leaves much to be desired.

  • Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL

Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Called up Thursday

Rivas was recalled from Triple-A Iowa to serve as the 27th man for Thursday's Field of Dreams Game against the Reds.

Rivas was demoted to Iowa in late July but will rejoin the big-league club Thursday. The 25-year-old has a .232/.313/.316 slash line in 201 plate appearances this season and is likely to return to Triple-A after the contest.
