  • Elvis Andrus 2B | ARI

White Sox's Elvis Andrus: Losing work to Burger

Andrus is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Andrus appeared to overtake Zach Remillard as Chicago's primary second baseman last week, but both players could be ticketed for utility roles moving forward. With Yoan Moncada returning from the injured list Tuesday and stepping back in as the White Sox's everyday third baseman, Jake Burger has now picked up consecutive starts at the keystone. Despite his defensive limitations at second base, Burger looks like he could settle in as the primary option at the position as the White Sox aim to keep his potent bat in the lineup.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Returns from injured list

Altuve (oblique) was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Altuve has missed nearly three weeks of action due to left oblique soreness, but he's been working out lately with no issues and will return to the Astros' lineup without a rehab assignment. The veteran second baseman will carry a .264/.371/.479 batting line with six home runs and five stolen bases over 32 games into action Wednesday.

  • David Hensley 1B | DET

Astros' David Hensley: Sent back to Triple-A

Houston optioned Hensley to Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Yordan Alvarez (oblique) and Jose Altuve (oblique) are back from the injured list, so both Hensley and Bligh Madris will get the boot from the Astros' major-league roster. Hensley, 27, has batted just .121/.215/.169 over 93 plate appearances this season in the majors.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Heads to bench Wednesday

Arroyo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Though he faces one less competitor for reps at second base after the Red Sox traded Enrique Hernandez to the Dodgers on Tuesday, Arroyo may have only a loose hold on the primary role at the keystone. He'll give way to Justin Turner on Wednesday, and while Turner doesn't necessarily profile as a regular option at second base, the impending return of Trevor Story (elbow) from the injured list could prove more costly for Arroyo. Once activated, Story will take over as Boston's everyday shortstop, perhaps resulting in Yu Chang shifting to the keystone to potentially poach work from Arroyo.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Orioles' Adam Frazier: Sitting out versus lefty

Frazier is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.

Frazier will take a seat with the Phillies throwing left-hander Ranger Suarez. Jordan Westburg is at second base and batting fifth for the Orioles.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: To return this weekend

Polanco (hamstring) is slated to be activated from the 10-day injured list in time for the Twins' series in Kansas City this weekend, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

He will play a seventh and final rehab game with Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday before rejoining the big club Friday. Polanco is making his third start at third base for St. Paul on Wednesday and looks to be in line to see most of his action against right-handers with the Twins at the hot corner, with Edouard Julien remaining at second base.

  • Amed Rosario SS | NYY

    Guardians' Amed Rosario: Sitting Wednesday

Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

He'll get a breather in the day game along with designated hitter Josh Bell and catcher Bo Naylor. Gabriel Arias will replace Rosario at shortstop and bat eighth.

  • Jose Caballero 2B | NYY

Mariners' Jose Caballero: On bench Wednesday

Caballero is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against Minnesota, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Caballero will remain on the bench for a fourth consecutive contest Wednesday as he appears to have lost his starting job to Kolten Wong. Wong will take over at second base and bat ninth in the series finale with the Twins.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

    Rays' Brandon Lowe: Flashing power

Lowe went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored Tuesday against the Marlins.

Lowe took George Soriano deep in the sixth inning to tally his 11th homer of the campaign. Though it was only his second time clearing the fences since returning from the injured list July 4, both of those homers have come in his last seven games (along with a double). He has also struck out at only a 17.9 percent clip since his return, which has helped him maintain a .250 average and .357 on-base percentage across 56 plate appearances.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Nabs steal in loss

Massey went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Guardians.

It was another quiet game for the Royals' offense, but Massey was at least able to provide a spark. Four of the team's five hits came from the bottom third of the order. The second baseman hasn't run much -- his steal Tuesday was his fourth of the season and first since May 27. Massey is slashing .215/.268/.343 with seven home runs, 29 RBI, 20 runs scored, seven doubles and a triple through 75 contests. Despite the lackluster hitting, he continues to see a majority of the playing time at the keystone.
