  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Clubs homer in loss

Altuve went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to Seattle.

The second baseman went yard in the fifth inning. Altuve has homered in consecutive games after failing to put a ball over the fence in all of August. He's hit safely in seven of the last eight contests and now sports a .272/.347/.481 slash line with 27 long balls, 71 RBI, 94 runs scored and four stolen bases across 582 plate appearances.

  • Luis Rengifo 3B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Slugs homer Tuesday

Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Padres.

Rengifo provided an insurance run in the ninth inning, swatting a solo shot to right field to give the Angels a 3-0 lead. The homer was his first since June 23. He had been struggling since his last long ball, entering Tuesday with a .140 average and only two RBI over his previous 57 at-bats.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Benched in second straight

Torres remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Torres will be on the bench for the second straight contest and the third time in five contests while Andrew Velazquez draws another start at shortstop. Since returning from a sprained thumb last weekend, Torres has gone 3-for-13 with no extra-base hits in four games, dropping his OPS to a career-worst .672 over 103 games. Torres is still expected to move forward as the Yankees' primary shortstop, but his standing atop the depth chart looks to be shaky.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Joins team for workouts

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Arroyo (illness) rejoined the team for workouts Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Arroyo is back in Boston after he completed a quarantine period and regained strength after being hit particularly hard by a case of COVID-19. Since Enrique Hernandez has beaten him back from the COVID-19 IL, Arroyo looks like he'll have to settle for a depth role upon returning, so the Red Sox may not rush activating him. Expect Arroyo to complete at least a few workouts and potentially head out on a minor-league rehab assignment before being reinstated from the IL.

  • Owen Miller 2B | CHC

Indians' Owen Miller: Sitting after three straight starts

Miller is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Miller cracked the starting nine at either second base or third base each of the past three games, but he'll take a seat with the normal starters at those positions -- Andres Gimenez and Jose Ramirez, respectively -- both included in Wednesday's lineup. The 24-year-old rookie looks like he'll draw most of his starts against left-handed pitching the rest of the way, limiting his appeal in season-long leagues.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: Notches 39th steal

Merrifield went 1-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to Baltimore.

The speedy second baseman had gone nine games without a steal, a span during which he batted a meager .237 (9-for-38). Merrifield is up to 39 steals in 42 attempts after his theft Tuesday. He's added a .277/.321/.399 slash line with 10 home runs, 68 RBI, 81 runs scored, 32 doubles and three triples as an everyday presence atop the Kansas City lineup.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Exits with wrist injury

Kemp was removed from Tuesday's loss to the White Sox due to a left wrist injury, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Kemp started in left field and shifted to second base Tuesday, but he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth inning. He went 1-for-3 prior to his departure. The severity of the 29-year-old's injury isn't yet clear.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Blue Jays' Marcus Semien: Homer barrage continues

Semien went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Yankees.

The 30-year-old is one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now. Semien has a seven-game hit streak going during which he's slashing .321/.406/1.000 with six homers and 11 RBI, and he's having an outstanding year overall, batting .270 with 38 homers, 14 steals, 88 RBI and 98 runs.

  • Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: Steals base, scores

Hernandez started at shortstop and went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Arizona.

Hernandez scored the first run in the Rangers' three-run fourth inning after singling and stealing second before a DJ Peters RBI single. It was the fourth theft in eight games for Hernandez. The Rangers continue to shuttle him between shortstop and third base, giving Hernandez four to five starts per week.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Goes deep in victory

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs and a walk in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Altuve took Logan Gilbert deep in the third inning for his 26th homer of the season. The long ball ended a streak of 31 games without a homer for the second baseman. He also walked in the ninth inning and came around to score on an Alex Bregman home run. The 31-year-old has now collected a hit in six out of seven contests while batting .276 with five extra-base hits over that stretch.
