Merrifield was diagnosed with a fractured left foot Saturday but is hopeful to return in time for a three-game series against the Dodgers that starts Sept. 13, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Merrifield fouled a ball off his foot Friday and further testing revealed he's dealing with a fracture. While he'll miss some time, a stay on the injured list doesn't seem necessary. With Merrifield sidelined, expect Luke Williams to handle most of the work at second base.

Phillies' Rodolfo Castro: Bumped to 60-day IL
The Phillies recalled Castro (thumb) from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday and placed on the 60-day injured list, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Castro had already been ruled out for the season with a torn ligament in his right thumb, but his shift to the Phillies' 60-day IL opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for reliever Jose Cuas. The utility player didn't appear in a game for the Phillies in 2024 and slashed .211/.282/.310 in 78 plate appearances for Lehigh Valley before being shut down in August.

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Out for season
Manager Carlos Mendoza said Saturday that McNeil was diagnosed with a fractured wrist and will miss the remainder of the season, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
McNeil had to leave Friday's game early after getting hit on the wrist by a pitch in the fifth inning, and the incident will ultimately end up putting an early end to his campaign. The 32-year-old will finish the 2024 regular season with a .238/.308/.384 slash line alongside 12 homers and 44 RBI across 472 plate appearances. Jose Iglesias figures to serve as New York's primary second baseman for the final month of the season.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Hitless in return
Marte served as the designated hitter, batted leadoff and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Friday's 8-0 loss to the Astros.
Marte, who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday, resumed his role as the team's leadoff batter against a lefty, though he didn't play the field. He missed two and a half weeks due to an ankle sprain and could be brought back at a measured pace before returning to second base.

Devers exited Friday's game against the Phillies with an apparent hand injury, MLB.com reports.
Playing first base for the first time in his career in a blowout loss, Devers was trying to field an errant throw from Connor Norby in the eighth inning and collided with Johan Rojas in the process. The severity of the issue is not currently clear.

McNeil exited Friday's game against the Reds after being hit in the wrist by a pitch, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
McNeil was plunked in the fifth inning and remained in the game for the top of the sixth frame. However, Harrison Bader took McNeil's spot as a pinch hitter the next time through the order. After the game, the Mets announced that McNeil had suffered a right wrist contusion and will undergo imaging Saturday.

Wisely is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Wisely has gone 0-for-6 with one walk and two strikeouts over his last two games. Since the beginning of August, he's slashed .135/.179/.189 with four RBI across 39 plate appearances. Marco Luciano will start at second base and bat eighth.
