  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Sitting again Sunday

Donovan is out of the lineup of Sunday's game against the Mariners.

The 26-year-old rejoined the lineup Friday after sitting out a couple days due to an infected abrasion in his lower left leg, but he's out of the starting nine Sunday for the second straight day. It's unclear if the injury is still bothersome for Donovan, or if manager Oliver Marmol is simply prioritizing other matchups this weekend.

  • Taylor Motter 2B | STL

Cardinals' Taylor Motter: Pushed off 40-man roster

The Cardinals designated Motter for assignment Sunday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Motter saw action in seven games with the Cardinals and slashed .222/.300/.333 over his 20 plate appearances. He'll cede his spot on the roster to Paul DeJong (back), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is expected to fill the same utility infield role that Motter previously occupied.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Gets day off Sunday

Arraez is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Arraez went 4-for-8 over the doubleheader against the Guardians on Saturday and will take a seat with a .444 average over his first 72 at-bats with the Marlins. Jon Berti is leading off and playing second base in Arraez's absence.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Hits keep coming

Arraez went 4-for-8 with two walks, a double, a run scored and two RBI across both games of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Guardians.

After smacking a two-run single in the matinee to help fuel a 6-1 win, Arraez reached base four times in the nightcap as the Marlins eked out a 3-2 victory. The former Twin continues to rake in his new uniform, and he leads the majors in both batting average (.444) and OBP (.506). Arraez has become something of an unconventional No. 3 hitter for an underpowered Miami lineup, and through 20 games he has only one homer, one steal, eight runs and nine RBI to show for all his trips on the basepaths.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Steals base, scores twice Saturday

Estrada went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Mets.

Estrada was the only Giant to record multiple hits in the contest. He's picked up three of his five steals over the last five games, and he's hit safely in each of those contests, going 6-for-20 (.300) in that span. The second baseman is up to .329/.378/.500 slash line with three home runs, six RBI and 15 runs scored through 20 games.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Swats another home run

Albies went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Astros.

Albies brought Atlanta back into the game with a two-run shot to cut the deficit to one in the sixth inning, but that was the end of the team's scoring Saturday. Albies has left the yard three times in his last six games, The second baseman has 18 RBI in 21 games this season.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Back-to-back games with homer

Hoerner went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Dodgers.

After not hitting a home run over the first 18 games of the season, Hoerner has gone deep in back-to-back matchups versus the Dodgers. The 25-year-old infielder continues to shine as the Cubs' leadoff hitter, and he's totaled 11 RBI, nine stolen bases and 19 runs across 20 games.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Sitting Saturday

Donovan will hit the bench Saturday against Seattle.

Donovan returned from a left shin abrasion Friday but went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts, dropping his slash line to a modest .254/.311/.388. He homered twice in the opening series but hasn't cleared the fence since. Nolan Gorman will be the second baseman Saturday, with Alec Burleson serving as the designated hitter.

  • Miguel Vargas 2B | CHW

Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Gets Saturday off

Vargas will sit Saturday against the Cubs, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Vargas hits the bench after starting 10 straight games at second base. He hasn't gotten off to a great start this season, hitting .204/.371/.296 with zero homers, but his 14:15 BB:K at least indicates that he's seeing the ball quite well. Mookie Betts will start at second base, with Jason Heyward taking Betts' usual spot in right field.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Not starting Saturday

Stott will sit Saturday against Kyle Freeland and the Rockies.

Stott filled the large side a platoon for much of last season, but he's been an everyday player this year. Saturday marks the first time he's been absent from the lineup, and given that he's off to a .344/.365/.452 start, he's unlikely to suddenly find himself regularly sitting against southpaws. Josh Harrison will fill in for him at second base.
