Gorman (back) is expected to be activated off the 10-day injured list Friday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The 25-year-old went 3-for-13 with a double and a homer during his three-game rehab assignment, clearing the way for him to rejoin the Cardinals after recovering from lower-back pain. Gorman could be a regular presence in the lineup since the corresponding transaction will be Nolan Arenado (shoulder) heading to the IL.

Albies went 4-for-6 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Thursday's 12-11 extra-inning win over the Reds.

The second baseman led a 13-hit attack for Atlanta, scoring multiple runs in a game for the first time since May 29. Albies is on pace for the worst season of his career, but he's shown signs of life at the plate since the All-Star break, slashing .289/.411/.467 over the last 13 contests with two doubles, two homers, two steals, eight runs, 13 RBI and a strong 10:10 BB:K.

The Cubs acquired Castro from the Twins on Thursday in exchange for right-handers Sam Armstrong and Ryan Gallagher, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

The switch-hitting Castro will likely play all over the infield and outfield for the Cubs, serving as an injury fill-in or as a lineup replacement when a regular needs a day off or is slumping. The move to Chicago could result in less playing time than he received in Minnesota, where Castro slashed .245/.335/.407 with 10 home runs and nine steals in 86 games.

Riggio was traded from the Yankees to the Rockies on Thursday along with Ben Shields in exchange for Jake Bird, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Riggio's minor-league numbers may oversell his abilities, as he's typically been old for the levels he's had success at, but now that he could get to play half his games in Coors Field, his dynasty value gets a little bump. The 23-year-old second baseman is slashing .261/.335/.542 with 11 home runs, seven steals, a 7.6 percent walk rate and a 21.8 percent strikeout rate in 40 games since getting promoted to Double-A on June 3.

Edman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Cincinnati.

Edman homered Tuesday in his return to action after missing Monday's game with an ankle injury. The Dodgers haven't provided any indication that Edman suffered a setback, so his absence Wednesday appears to be a measure of giving him two days of rest since the team is off Thursday. Miguel Rojas will start at second base and Alex Freeland will man third base for the Dodgers in the series finale in Cincinnati.

Iglesias will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Iglesias has now started in five of the Padres' last six games and has maintained a solid, if unspectacular .278/.333/.361 slash line with three extra-base hits (all doubles), two stolen bases, five runs and one RBI since the All-Star break. Though he's performed well enough to retain a near-everyday spot in the lineup for the time being, Iglesias will be at risk of moving into more of a utility role if the Padres add another impact bat ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.

Edman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Tuesday in a 5-4 win against Cincinnati.

Edman sat out Monday due to an ankle issue, but he felt good enough to return to the starting lineup Tuesday. The infielder/outfielder certainly seemed fine in his first at-bat, as he poked a two-run homer to right field. It was his second long ball of the second half of the campaign, and during that span he's slashing .250/.294/.438 with five RBI over nine games.

Farmer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Guardians.

Farmer left the yard in the ninth inning for his fifth home run this year, tying his total from last season. He's now scored four runs over his last two games but has not shown much life at the plate otherwise, slashing .216/.265/.347.

Peguero went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Giants.

Peguero tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning and added another RBI with a groundout in the eighth. The long ball was his first in the majors since the 2023 campaign, though he's hit a combined 18 homers over 200 games with Triple-A Indianapolis in 2024 and 2025. In the majors this year, he is batting .263 with a 1:5 BB:K across 21 plate appearances. He's made starts at first base, second base and shortstop over the last four games and appears to be a reserve utility infielder at this time.

Hoerner went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee.

Hoerner singled in the second and fourth innings before knocking a solo shot in the sixth. He snapped a 23-game homerless drought and now has four home runs in 103 games this season, all of them coming in his last 29 contests. In that same 29-game span, he's stolen only five bags and has not swiped any in his last six appearances. Hoerner is slashing .293/.340/.385 with 58 runs scored this year.
