Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL
Giants' Thairo Estrada: Placed on waivers
The Giants placed Estrada on waivers Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Estrada has taken a considerable step back at the plate this season, slashing .216/.246/.345 with nine home runs and 46 RBI through 374 plate appearances. Due to his poor performance, the Giants have now made him available for any other team willing to pay the remainder of the $4.7 million contract he signed with San Francisco during the offseason. He is still eligible to play while on waivers.

Brooks Baldwin SS | CHW
White Sox's Brooks Baldwin: Not starting nightcap
Baldwin isn't in the White Sox's lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Texas.
Baldwin will take a seat to conclude Wednesday's activities after going 1-for-3 during a loss in Game 1. Lenyn Sosa will shift to second base while Baldwin sits, allowing Miguel Vargas to start at the hot corner and bat eighth.

Brendan Rodgers 2B | BOS
Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Resting amid slump
Rodgers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
Rodgers is likely getting a veteran's rest day after he had started each of the Rockies' last 20 games. He owns an .818 OPS for August but has cooled off at the plate of late, going 3-for-24 with 11 strikeouts and no walks over his last six contests. Aaron Schunk will step in at second base for the slumping Rodgers.

Jorge Mateo SS | ATL
Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Out for season
The Orioles announced that Mateo underwent season-ending UCL reconstruction surgery on his left elbow Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Mateo hadn't played since July 23 with a left elbow subluxation before eventually requiring the procedure. He'll finish the 2024 campaign with a .229/.267/.401 slash line to go with five home runs and 13 stolen bases across 68 games. The 29-year-old will enter his final year of arbitration eligibility this offseason and will likely fill a utility role if the Orioles opt to keep him on the roster in 2025.

Edouard Julien 2B | COL
Twins' Edouard Julien: Sitting against lefty
Julien is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
The lefty-hitting Julien will bow out of the starting nine while Atlanta sends a tough southpaw (Chris Sale) to the hill. Platoon mate Kyle Farmer will fill in for Julien at the keystone.

Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Heads back to Triple-A
The Phillies optioned Kennedy to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.
Kennedy's stay with the big club lasted just two days while fellow utility player Weston Wilson (personal) was on the paternity list. With Wilson rejoining the Phillies on Wednesday, Kennedy will return to Lehigh Valley, where he should settle back in as an everyday player.

Zack Gelof 3B | ATH
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Belts 16th homer Tuesday
Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a win over the Reds on Tuesday.
Gelof left the yard in the eighth inning via a 424-foot shot to left center that extended the Athletics' lead to 5-1, a run that turned out to be critical after the Reds rallied for three runs over the final two frames. Gelof's round tripper snapped a 12-game power drought for the infielder, whose average (.199) has dipped back under the Mendoza Line despite Tuesday's success. The lack of consistent contact continues to be a major drag on Gelof's overall numbers in his first full major-league season, as he's striking out at a 34.7 percent clip.
