  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Lands on IL with oblique strain

Lowe was placed on the 10-day injured list by the Rays on Friday, retroactive to April 9, with a right oblique strain, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

The grade of the strain has not yet been revealed, so it's unclear at this point how much time Lowe might miss. Curtis Mead has been filling for him at second base and should continue to do so most days. The Rays also recalled Niko Goodrum to take Lowe's spot on the roster, and he is an option at the keystone, as well.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Records first steal

Westburg went 0-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in Thursday's 9-4 extra-inning win over the Red Sox.

Westburg hadn't drawn a walk since March 31. The infielder started the season splitting time between second base and third base, but he's expected to feature mostly at the hot corner now that Jackson Holliday is in the majors. Westburg is slashing .216/.310/.459 with two home runs, eight RBI, one steal, seven runs scored and three doubles over 11 contests, so he looks fairly ready to be in the lineup a majority of the time.

  • Niko Goodrum 2B | SD

Rays' Niko Goodrum: Called up by Tampa Bay

The Rays recalled Goodrum from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

The 32-year-old will take the roster spot of Brandon Lowe, who heads to the injured list with an oblique strain. Goodrum had a 1.027 OPS through nine games for Durham and should fill a utility role while up with the Rays.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Swats two-run homer

Stott went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Thursday in a 5-1 victory versus Pittsburgh.

Stott's two-run blast in the seventh inning capped the scoring in the contest for Philadelphia. It was his first homer of the year and just his second extra-base hit of any sort. It's been a slow start to the campaign for Stott, who is slashing just .220/.313/.317 through 48 plate appearances.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: On base four times

Altuve went 3-for-4 with a walk and a double Thursday against the Royals.

Altuve has reached base in every game of the regular season and Thursday marked his fifth multi-hit performance. He's also chipped in three homers and 10 runs scored across 14 contests. The only downside to Altuve's line to begin the new campaign is that he's attempted only one stolen base and was unsuccessful.

  • Niko Goodrum 2B | SD

    Rays' Niko Goodrum: Promotion expected

Goodrum is likely to be promoted to the major-league roster Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Goodrum joined the Rays just before Opening Day and has been playing at Triple-A Charlotte since. However, with Brandon Lowe (oblique), Taylor Walls (hip) and Jonathan Aranda (finger) all sidelined, the team needs depth along its infield. Goodrum is capable of playing any infield position besides catcher, but his best chance for playing time is likely to come at second base.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Reaches four more times in win

McNeil went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, three RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 16-4 victory over Atlanta.

After going just 2-for-22 to start the campaign, McNeil's now hit safely in his last five contests, going 5-for-13 in that span. While he's shown signs of turning it around at the plate, the 32-year-old McNeil is still batting just .200 with a .647 OPS through 11 games this year. He slashed .270/.333/.378 with 10 homers, 75 runs scored, 55 RBI and 10 steals in 2023.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Records second steal

Gimenez went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

Gimenez has hit safely in all but one game this season. The second baseman is batting .326 with no home runs, seven RBI, 10 runs scored, two steals, five doubles and a triple. He has batted second against right-handed pitchers, and with Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor behind him in the order, Gimenez is in position to score a lot of runs if he can continue to get on base.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Royals' Adam Frazier: Resting for series finale

Frazier is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

Frazier appears to be receiving a veteran's day off for the afternoon game after he started at second base in both of the previous two contests while going 1-for-6 with two walks, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Nick Loftin will step in for Frazier at the keystone.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Another multi-hit game

Semien went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Athletics.

Semien logged a second consecutive two-hit game. It's been feast or famine for the second baseman, who in 12 games played has seven multi-hit efforts and five in which he's had zero hits.
