  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Out Saturday with bruised leg

Altuve (left leg contusion) is not in Saturday's lineup against the Yankees.

Altuve exited Friday's game with a bruise after fouling a ball off his left leg/shin. Manager Dusty Baker said Altuve is still sore Saturday and is not moving around well, per Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Mauricio Dubon will start at second base and lead off.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Red Sox's Luis Urias: Riding pine Saturday

Urias is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals.

Urias is hitting .179 with more walks (six) than strikeouts (five) and one home run over his last 10 games. Enmanuel Valdez will start at the keystone while batting ninth.

  • Ji-Hwan Bae 2B | NYM

Pirates' Ji Hwan Bae: Locked into consistent role

Bae went 1-for-5 with a stolen base Friday against the Cardinals.

Bae has started all seven games against right-handed pitching since he returned from the injured list Aug. 18, and he's also started four of seven contests against southpaws. In that span, he's gone 10-for-41 with four RBI and five runs to go along with a pair of stolen bases. While unremarkable production, the Pirates appear invested in getting Bae regular at-bats, to the detriment of Liover Peguero.

  • Ronny Mauricio 2B | NYM

Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Sets Statcast record in debut

Mauricio went 2-for-3 with a double in Friday's 2-1 win over the Mariners.

Getting the start at second base and batting ninth in his big-league debut, Mauricio ripped a double off Logan Gilbert to lead off the bottom of the third inning that left his bat at 117.3 mph -- the fastest exit velocity recorded during the Statcast era on a player's first career hit, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Mauricio earned his promotion by slashing .288/.357/.558 for Triple-A Syracuse in August with seven homers and eight steals in 24 games, and the 22-year-old figures to get a long look in September as Francisco Lindor's potential long-term double-play partner.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Rejoins big club

Edwards went 0-for-1 with a run scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Nationals after being recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville prior to the game.

Edwards and right-handed reliever Geoff Hartlieb joined the Marlins on Friday as the team's two September call-ups with the active roster expanding from 26 to 28 players. With the 68-67 Marlins still in the thick of the National League wild-card race, Edwards may not get the immediate opportunity to play regularly, unless the Marlins elect to call an end to the unproductive platoon of Joey Wendle and Jon Berti at shortstop.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Registers steal in win

Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rays.

Gimenez has faltered at the plate bit a lately, going 4-for-36 (.111) over his last nine games, though he has managed two steals in that span. The second baseman's slump has him down to a .234/.302/.378 slash line for the year. He's added 23 steals, 12 home runs, 49 RBI and 61 runs scored over 129 contests. While he's struggling, it hasn't cost him much playing time at the keystone.

  • Kolten Wong 2B | BAL

Dodgers' Kolten Wong: Homers in first game with new team

Wong hit a three-run home run as a pinch hitter in Friday's 6-3 loss to Atlanta.

The second baseman pinch hit for Freddie Freeman in the eighth inning, and Wong got his Dodgers career started with a bang. Prior to signing a minor-league deal in August, Wong mustered an abysmal .468 OPS with the Mariners over 67 games. With Los Angeles, he figures to be little more than a part-time player, though his solid defensive reputation may lead to him coming off the bench as a late-game replacement more often than not.

  • Jordan Diaz 3B | ATH

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Doubles twice in three-hit effort

Diaz went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one walk, one RBI and one run scored in Friday's 9-2 win over the Angels.

Diaz has hit safely in four straight games, going 8-for-13 (.615) with two walks in that span. The infielder was able to contribute his first RBI in seven games with a seventh-inning double. For the season, he's at a .246/.305/.411 slash line with nine home runs, 23 RBI, 18 runs scored and seven doubles through 69 contests.

  • Blue Jays' Whit Merrifield: Three hits, stolen base in win

Merrifield went 3-for-5 with an RBI double, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 13-9 win over the Rockies.

Merrifield singled and stole second base off Chris Flexen in the top of the second inning before he ripped an RBI double off Brent Suter in the top of the seventh, driving in Alejandro Kirk in the process. The stolen base was Merrifield's 25th of the year and second in as many games. After a hot stretch from the beginning of July until mid-August, he has struggled to a .186 batting average with four extra-base hits over 59 at-bats since Aug. 16. Perhaps Friday's performance can get him back on track.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Exits early with shin injury

Altuve exited Friday's 6-2 loss to the Yankees early with a left leg contusion, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Altuve fouled a ball off his left leg and subsequently exited the contest in the next half inning. It's unclear how significant an injury he sustained, but he should be considered day-to-day until the Astros provide more information.
