  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Day off Wednesday

Altuve isn't starting Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Altuve has had multi-hit performances in two of the last four games, and he's gone 6-for-15 with three home runs, two doubles, eight runs, four RBI, four walks and a strikeout over that stretch. He'll get a breather while Aledmys Diaz starts at the keystone and bats second.

  • Amed Rosario 3B | NYY

    Guardians' Amed Rosario: Sitting Wednesday

Rosario isn't starting Wednesday against the Rays.

Rosario is getting a rare day off after he went 5-for-19 with two triples, a double, two runs, two RBI and three strikeouts over the last four games. Tyler Freeman will take over at shortstop and bat second.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Remains out of lineup

Arroyo (illness) isn't starting Wednesday against the Orioles, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Arroyo continues to recover from a non-COVID illness and will remain out of the lineup for a ninth consecutive game. On a fortunate note, Arroyo doesn't look like he's being shut down for the season, as he's set to face Kutter Crawford (shoulder) in a simulated game Tuesday, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. Enrique Hernandez is starting at the keystone while Abraham Almonte enters the lineup in center field.

  • Tigers' Harold Castro: Back on bench

Castro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

The lefty-hitting Castro will take a seat against Royals southpaw Daniel Lynch after going 9-for-14 with a home run, a double and six RBI while starting each of the past three games at three different positions. He appears to have recaptured a near-everyday role against right-handed pitching.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Drives in three Tuesday

Torres went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Each of his three singles brought a runner home, including what proved to be the game-winning hit in the third inning. Torres is on fire to close out the regular season -- over his last 16 games, the 25-year-old is slashing .400/.452/.708 with five doubles, five homers, three steals, 11 runs and 21 RBI.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Heads to 60-day IL

The Rays transferred Lowe (back) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Lowe was officially ruled out for the season last week, so his move to the 60-day IL is merely procedural with the Rays needing to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Tyler Glasnow (elbow), who will start Wednesday's game in Cleveland. The Rays are hopeful the 28-year-old infielder will be back to 100 percent for spring training, but it's unclear when he might be ready to resume offseason workouts while he recovers from lower-back discomfort.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Out of Wednesday's lineup

India is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Pirates.

India is hitting .243 with a double, four runs, three RBI and a stolen base over his last 10 games. Alejo Lopez will start at the keystone and hit sixth.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Moved down order

Hernandez batted eighth and went 1-for-5 with two runs scored in Tuesday's 13-9 win over Baltimore.

Hernandez had returned to the top of the order for Monday's game when Tommy Pham was given the day off, and he had a couple of hits and three RBI. Pham returned to the lineup Tuesday and was back in the leadoff spot, sending Hernandez down to the lower third of the batting order. It's been a rough season for Hernandez, who missed the bulk of the summer with a hip injury. His batting average hovered around the .200 mark for most of the season before a recent push since Aug. 26 (25-for-94, .266) raised it to .225. Despite the down season, the Red Sox inked him for 2023, and Hernandez is expected back as the team's center fielder next year.

  • Ji-Hwan Bae 2B | NYM

Pirates' Ji-hwan Bae: Tallies second double

Bae went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored Tuesday against the Cubs.

Bae got a day off Monday, but he returned to the lineup Tuesday to hit ninth and play second base. Though he tallied two hits, he came around to score in the third inning after leading off the frame by being hit with a pitch. Bae has yet to tally his first career home run, but he does have two doubles and two steals across four starts.

  • David Hensley 1B | DET

Astros' David Hensley: Smacks first career home run

Hensley went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over Arizona.

Hensley replaced Yordan Alvarez as the designated hitter Tuesday after Alvarez left the game with an ankle injury, and he made the most of it. The rookie took a 1-2 fastball the opposite way to right field in the sixth inning for his first career home run. He also just missed a second round tripper as Arizona right fielder Jake McCarthy made a leaping catch to rob him of what was likely another homer in the eighth inning. If Alvarez is forced to miss additional time, Hensley could see more at-bats and provide sneaky value in a strong Houston lineup.
