  • Alex Bregman 3B | HOU

Astros' Alex Bregman: Remains out Saturday

Bregman (elbow) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The third baseman will miss a second consecutive start due to elbow soreness, with Mauricio Dubon once again filling in at the hot corner. Bregman has been bothered by the elbow throughout August -- it cost him five games earlier in the month -- but there has been nothing to suggest an IL move will be necessary.

  • Jace Jung 3B | DET

Tigers' Jace Jung: On bench Saturday

Jung is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox.

Following an 0-for-5, two-strikeout showing Friday, Jung's slash line is down to .222/.327/.267 through his first 13 games. He's one of the organization's top prospects and the Tigers figure to give him some runway to show what he can do, but Jung will give way to Ryan Kreidler at third base against right-hander Nick Pivetta.

  • Coby Mayo 3B | BAL

Orioles' Coby Mayo: Rejoining big club Sunday

The Orioles are expected to recall Mayo from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

With rosters set to expand Sunday, Mayo will return to the majors for the stretch run, though he won't be assured everyday playing time. Widely considered one of the top prospects in baseball, Mayo has put together a big year at Triple-A with 22 homers and a .943 OPS in 87 games for Norfolk. His 1-for-17 showing during his first cup of coffee in the big leagues should not dampen enthusiasm long term in dynasty leagues.

  • Paul DeJong 3B | KC

Royals' Paul DeJong: Homers in Friday's loss

DeJong went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Astros.

DeJong's game-tying homer off Josh Hader in the top of the ninth inning was just the second hit of the game for the Royals. Over his last 13 games, DeJong has gone 14-for-45 (.311) with five homers, three doubles, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored, though he's struck out 19 times in that span. For the year, DeJong is at a .238/.289/.458 slash line with 24 homers, 55 RBI, 52 runs scored, two stolen bases and 17 doubles over 124 games between the Royals and White Sox. His recent results are encouraging, but a continually high strikeout rate makes him prone to regression.

  • Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Belts second homer

Rivera went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 5-3 win over the Rockies.

His two-run homer off Austin Gomber in the fourth inning put Baltimore in the lead for good. It was Rivera's first long ball as an Oriole and just his second of the season, and while he's started three of the last six games for his new squad, he's received only seven plate appearances during that time as Ramon Urias continues to see the bulk of the action at third base.

  • Jon Berti 3B | NYY

Yankees' Jon Berti: Won't return Sunday

Berti (calf) will continue his rehab stint through the weekend and "a handful of days" into next week according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The Yankees can add two players when rosters expand Sunday, but Berti won't be one of them. The utility man has been rehabbing with Double-A Somerset since Aug. 24 and has gone 2-for-12 with a home run, three RBI and a 2:4 BB:K through five contests. It's unclear if New York believes Berti needs more games in the minors to ramp up or if the team has simply elected to go in another direction with its roster expansion, but it appears the 34-year-old won't be back with the big club until at least the end of next week.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Two thefts in Friday's win

Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in Friday's 10-8 win over the Pirates.

It's been a memorable month for Ramirez, as the do-it-all third baseman is batting .279 (29-for-104) with six home runs, 14 steals and 17 RBI over 28 contests in August. With his two steals Friday, he matched his career high in a season at 34, a mark he previously reached over 157 games in 2018. Ramirez is slashing a strong .276/.333/.531 with 33 homers, 104 RBI, 98 runs scored, 31 doubles and a triple over 132 contests this year, and with a full month to go, a 40-40 campaign is not out of the question.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | HOU

Astros' Alex Bregman: Dealing with elbow soreness

Manager Joe Espada said that Bregman was not included in Friday's lineup against Kansas City due to elbow soreness, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Bregman missed five games in August due to swelling in his right elbow, though he had started each of the Astros' prior nine games before Friday. It's unclear if the third baseman will be available off the bench for the contest. Over the nine games since his return, Bregman has gone 9-for-36 with two solo home runs.

  • Josh H. Smith 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Sitting against southpaw

Smith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Oakland.

Smith will dodge a same-handed matchup with JP Sears on Friday, giving way to Robbie Grossman at DH.

  • Lenyn Sosa 3B | CHW

White Sox's Lenyn Sosa: Resting Friday

Sosa is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets.

After making 12 consecutive starts (eight at second base, four at third base), Sosa will take a seat Friday. Nicky Lopez will handle the keystone while Miguel Vargas plays third base.
