Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Hoping to swing bat this week
Chapman (finger) said Sunday that he's hopeful to resuming swinging a bat and making throws with a baseball this week while the Blue Jays are in Oakland for a three-game series with the Athletics, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Though Chapman noted that the swelling in his sprained right middle finger has gone down considerably since he landed on the 10-day injured list last Monday, he's still not able to make a fist with his hand. Chapman believes he'll regain more flexibility with the finger in the coming days, in which case he would be able to resume baseball activities. He still may have an outside shot at coming off the IL before next weekend's series with the Royals, though at this stage, Chapman's absence seems likelier to stretch into the following week.

Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW
Angels' Mike Moustakas: Idle versus lefty
Moustakas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Moustakas will join fellow left-handed hitters Nolan Schanuel and Trey Cabbage on the bench while the Athletics bring southpaw Kyle Muller to the hill for the series finale. Eduardo Escobar will replace Moustakas at third base and bat fifth.

Andre Lipcius 3B | CHW
Tigers' Andre Lipcius: Hits first MLB home run
Lipcius went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 10-0 win over the White Sox.
Lipcius connected in the first inning against Chicago starter Mike Clevinger, giving him his first home run at the MLB level in his second game after hitting 11 long balls for Triple-A Toledo this season across 97 games. The 25-year-old looks mostly like a depth option for the Tigers at this point, though they could give him more playing time down the stretch as they turn their focus to 2024.

Oswald Peraza 3B | LAA
Yankees' Oswald Peraza: Three hits in win
Peraza went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Astros.
Getting another start at second base in place of Gleyber Torres (back) and batting eighth, Peraza was the only Yankee to collect multiple hits on the night -- a surprising turn of events considering that prior to Saturday's eruption, the 23-year-old had gone just 2-for-33 (.061) in 10 games since his late August promotion. Peraza isn't one of the bigger names among the Baby Bombers currently filling the New York lineup, but after posting a .268/.357/.479 slash line in 300 plate appearances at Triple-A this season with 14 homers and 16 steals, he could still be part of the franchise's future, especially if Torres gets shifted off the keystone next season.

Tyler Nevin 3B | ATH
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Recalled from Triple-A
The Tigers recalled Nevin from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Nevin is slashing .326/.400/.543 with 58 RBI across 385 plate appearances in Triple-A this season, but his success has yet to translate into the majors. He'll come up from the minors to replace Riley Greene (elbow), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday.

DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Opens September with long ball
LeMahieu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 victory against Houston.
LeMahieu opened the new month in good form, swatting Justin Verlander's second pitch of the game over the right-field fence for a leadoff homer. The long ball continued LeMahieu's recent power surge -- he's gone deep six times over his past 10 contests after slugging just eight homers over his initial 104 games of the campaign. The veteran is now up to 14 home runs on the year, the most since he hit a career-high 26 long balls in his first season as a Yankee in 2019.

Zack Gelof 2B | ATH
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Multi-RBI effort in win
Gelof went 2-for-5 with a two-RBI double, another two-bagger and a run in a win over the Angels on Friday.
Gelof's fourth-inning two-bagger knocked in Esteury Ruiz and Jonah Bride to cap off a five-run outburst. The rookie pushed his RBI total to an impressive 23 with the timely double and also snapped a rare 1-for-18 slump that had encompassed his last five games. Gelof has demonstrated a welcome knack for clutch hitting early in his career, posting a .905 OPS across his first 43 plate appearances with men in scoring position.

Josh Jung 3B | TEX
Rangers' Josh Jung: Making progress
Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that Jung (thumb) is two to three weeks away from returning to game action, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Jung, who had a plate and pins installed in his left thumb in early August, has started taking one-handed swings in the batting cage. Bochy said Jung will require rehab at-bats, so his return to game action would presumably start in the minors. That could push out his return to the majors to final week of the regular season.

Taylor Walls 3B | TB
Rays' Taylor Walls: Returns from injured list
Walls (oblique) was activated Friday from the 10-day injured list, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.
Walls is recovered from a left oblique strain that has kept him sidelined since late July and figures to get consistent work at shortstop down the stretch with Wander Franco on administrative leave. Osleivis Basabe remains active with major-league rosters expanding from 26 to 28, but he could slide into more of a utility role.

Jose Miranda 3B | MIN
Twins' Jose Miranda: Moves to 60-day IL
The Twins transferred Miranda (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Miranda was already expected to be out until late September, but his move to the 60-day IL ensures he's out until at least Sept. 15. His spot on the 40-man roster will be filled by Andrew Stevenson, who was selected from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.
