  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Recalled Monday

Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

Garcia was sent to the minors in early August but will rejoin the major-league club to provide depth while Hunter Dozier (personal) is on the paternity list. Garcia isn't starting Monday against Minnesota.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Not in Monday's lineup

LeMahieu (toe) isn't starting Monday against the Rays, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

LeMahieu has been dealing with a right big toe injury recently and will be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. The 34-year-old is expected to undergo an MRI on Monday, but the results of his tests aren't yet clear. Gleyber Torres is starting at second base and leading off.

  • Tyler Freeman 3B | COL

Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Registers first steal

Freeman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Freeman has seen inconsistent playing time since his promotion Aug. 3, appearing in just six games. He's batting .250 with a stolen base and two runs scored through 20 plate appearances, and he's yet to see a hit go for extra bases. With Andres Gimenez, Amed Rosario and Jose Ramirez around, Freeman has no clear path to playing time in the infield, so an uptick in usage shouldn't be expected.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Hits two-run homer

Bregman went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-3 win over Oakland.

Bregman launched a two-run shot in the first inning that scored Yordan Alvarez, then doubled home Jeremy Pena in the seventh. Bregman now has home runs in back-to-back games and in three of his last four games. He extended his hit streak to six games, which also includes three two-hit games. The third baseman has a .400 batting average for the month and a .258 average for the season.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Begins taking grounders

Rendon took grounders Friday for the first time since undergoing wrist surgery in June, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

Rendon isn't going to return this season, but his ability to begin some baseball activity at this point in his recovery leaves little doubt that he'll be ready for spring training in 2023. In fact, the veteran third baseman is expected to have a normal offseason without rehab. Angels head athletic trainer Mike Frostad echoed that point Friday, saying that he doesn't anticipate anything delaying Rendon's offseason.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Carries Red Sox on Sunday

Devers went 2-for-4 with one homer, two RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Yankees.

The 25-year-old broke out of a slump in a big way, carrying the Red Sox to victory in Sunday night's bout with the Yankees. Devers was slashing just .136/.208/.313 since returning from his hamstring injury on Aug. 2, but with the home run Sunday, perhaps he'll get back on track. The All-Star is still sporting a healthy .305/.361/.577 line on the season.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Dealing with injury

Manager Aaron Boone said after Sunday's loss to the Red Sox that LeMahieu is dealing with a right big toe injury, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

LeMahieu sat out Sunday's series finale against Boston and has apparently been dealing with his injury for a few days. He received a cortisone shot during the All-Star break, but the issue has been bothering him while swinging recently. He'll likely get imaging done once the team returns home from Boston following Sunday's game, and he should tentatively be considered day-to-day.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Takes Sunday off

LeMahieu is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

LeMahieu started the past 14 games and will head to the bench Sunday while in the midst of a 1-for-18 slump. Gleyber Torres will man the keystone and bat fifth in the series finale at Boston.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Twins' Gio Urshela: Out of Sunday's lineup

Urshela is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Urshela went 0-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and three strikeouts Saturday and will take a seat in Sunday's series finale. Jose Miranda will move to third base while Byron Buxton rests his legs as the designated hitter.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Launches two-run homer

Bregman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Athletics.

Bregman kicked off the scoring in Saturday's game with a two-run shot that scored Yordan Alvarez. It was Bregman's 15th of the season and his second this month. The homer was his only hit in the game, but it extended his hit streak to five games. The third baseman has only one game this month without a hit and has just three strikeouts in August, resulting in a .389 batting average for the month. Since Aug. 2, Bregman has improved his season batting average from .243 to .256.
