Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Absence won't be brief
Manager Ron Gardenhire said Tuesday that Candelario (thumb) would be out "a while," Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Candelario landed on the injured list with a sprained left thumb Tuesday. Tests revealed no fracture, but the sprain is apparently a fairly serious one. The Tigers have yet to establish a target return date.

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Out again Tuesday
Urshela (leg soreness) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Orioles.
He will miss his second game in a row after fouling a ball off his leg twice Sunday. Urshela was reportedly available off the bench in Monday's game, so the same likely holds for this contest. DJ LeMahieu is starting at third base while Mike Ford starts at first base, hitting seventh.

Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Shelved with sprained thumb
The Tigers placed Candelario on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a sprained left thumb.
Candelario suffered the hand injury in Sunday's 9-4 loss to the Rangers and was sent in for X-rays a day later. While the scans cleared Candelario of any structural damage to his thumb, the Tigers determined a few days off wouldn't be enough for the third baseman to recover from the injury. The Tigers recalled Dawel Lugo from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move and could turn to some combination of him and Harold Castro to cover the hot corner while Candelario is on the shelf.

Twins' Willians Astudillo: Begins swinging a bat
Astudillo (oblique) started swinging a bat before Monday's game, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports
Astudillo is finally showing some signs of progress after being sidelined since going on the IL in late June. He's likely going to need a lengthy rehab assignment, so he may not return to the team until rosters expand in September.

Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Out with thumb issue
Candelario was held out of Monday's game against the White Sox due to a left thumb injury, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Candelario reportedly suffered the injury during Sunday's matchup in Texas on a swing, though X-rays came back negative. Despite this, skipper Ron Gardenhire hasn't ruled out a trip to the shelf for Candelario. He's set to be re-evaluated Tuesday to determine his availability moving forward, per Evan Woodbery of MLive.com.

Candelario is not in the lineup Monday against the White Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Battling leg soreness
Urshela was pulled from Sunday's game against the Red Sox after fouling a ball off his leg twice earlier in the contest, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. After exiting, he underwent X-rays on his leg, which returned negative.
Urshela managed to remain in the contest immediately after fouling a ball off his own leg on back-to-back pitches, but he was ultimately lifted. Skipper Aaron Boone noted that while scans cleared Urshela of any structural damage, the third baseman is still experiencing soreness. His status will thus be worth keeping an eye on heading into Monday's series opener in Baltimore.
