    Arenado sat out Tuesday as a precautionary move, but he'll start at the hot corner and bat third in Wednesday's regular-season finale. However, the 31-year-old is expected to have just two plate appearances so he can get some extra rest rest ahead of the postseason.

    Anderson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

    Anderson will head to the bench for the second time in three games to close out the season. The 29-year-old entered Wednesday's contest with a .657 OPS, the lowest mark of his six-year big-league career.

    Vargas is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Mets, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

    Vargas went 0-for-4 during the matinee and will step out of the starting nine for Game 2. Cesar Hernandez will move to the hot corner while Josh Palacios starts in left field.

    Longoria was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured right thumb Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

    Longoria was struck on the hand by a ball Sunday against the Diamondbacks and underwent an X-ray that revealed a fractured thumb. He'll be unavailable for the Giants' final three regular-season games, and it seems likely that he'll require several weeks of rest during the offseason. The 36-year-old slashed .244/.315/.451 with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs over 89 games in 2022.

    Arenado was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Pirates for an undisclosed reason, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

    Arenado was scratched from the lineup with approximately 15 minutes remaining until first pitch, but a reason for his removal isn't yet clear. Juan Yepez will enter the lineup at third base and bat sixth.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Riding pine Monday

    Machado isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against San Francisco.

    The 30-year-old slugger will get a day off after the Padres officially clinched a playoff spot Sunday. Brandon Drury will move to third base in his absence, moving Josh Bell into first base and opening up a chance for Brandon Dixon to start as San Diego's designated hitter, batting ninth.
