  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Losing work to Urias

Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Peterson finds himself on the bench for the fourth time in five games. Though his absence Wednesday comes with southpaw Jose Quintana on the bump, the lefty-hitting Peterson has also sat against two right-handed pitchers during that five-game stretch. Luis Urias looks to have wrested a regular role in the infield away from Peterson.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Returns to bench role

Rivera is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Houston.

After making starts in four consecutive games last week, Rivera will now find himself on the bench for the fourth straight contest. He looks set to finish the season as a short-side platoon player for the Diamondbacks.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Riding pine Wednesday

Castro isn't starting Wednesday against the Reds.

Castro went 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts Tuesday and will head to the bench for the second time in the last three games. Kevin Newman is taking over at the keystone and batting seventh.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Giants' J.D. Davis: Tallies three more hits

Davis went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-2 win against the Rockies on Tuesday.

Davis singled in the first inning, connected on a solo home run off Colorado starter German Marquez in the fourth and singled again in the ninth. The 29-year-old continued a strong September with multiple hits for the second straight game as he's 7-for-9 with a pair of homers and doubles apiece over his last two contests.

  • Nick Madrigal 2B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Done for 2022

Cubs manager David Ross said Tuesday that Madrigal (groin) won't return this season, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Injuries have been an issue for Madrigal in all three of his big-league seasons, and this year a couple different issues limited him to only 59 games. He will finish 2022 with just a .587 OPS, but he did hit an even .300 in August -- the month in which he recorded over a third of his at-bats. Madrigal should be back at 100 percent well in advance of spring training, and he figures to get a chance to compete for a starting job at second base.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Hayes is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Reds, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

He missed time recently with a back issue. There has been nothing yet to suggest this absence is directly related, so perhaps the Pirates just want to give Hayes a day off here and there over the final nine days of the season. Rodolfo Castro slides over to third base while Ji-hwan Bae is starting at second base.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Nine-game hitting streak

Newman went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored Monday against the Reds.

Newman reached base three times to extend his hitting streak to nine games. He's hit .314 with four RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases in that span. Despite hitting well, Newman could lose some playing time across the final week of the season as the Pirates look to keep Rodolfo Castro and Ji-hwan Bae in the lineup.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

    Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Sitting Monday

Castro isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.

Kevin Newman will play second base in the series opener. Castro has excelled in his last 11 games, hitting .273 with three home runs, nine RBI and three walks.

  • Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN

Reds' Matt Reynolds: Spelling Solano again

Reynolds will start at first base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Pirates.

He'll be included in the lineup for the fifth straight contest, including his third start in a row at first base while Donovan Solano (eye) remains sidelined. Since returning from the 10-day injured list Sept. 9, Reynolds is slashing .333/.429/.375 with three RBI and one run in 11 games.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Clutch pinch-hit single

Longoria went 1-for-1 with two RBI in Sunday's victory over the Diamondbacks.

Longoria pinch hit for Ford Proctor in the top of the eighth inning Sunday and came up big with a two-run single to put the Giants up 3-1. The veteran has settled into a platoon role of late and does not have much fantasy appeal at this point in his career, but the big hit Sunday keeps the Giants' playoff hopes alive.
