  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Records two hits Wednesday

Wisdom went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Padres.

Wisdom returned from a bruised ankle Monday after sitting out Sunday's game, and he looks just fine after starting the last three contests. The 30-year-old has a .744 OPS this season with 16 RBI and 16 runs scored across 28 games. The Cubs have played 30 games total, so Wisdom has been a lineup fixture, despite the presence of Jonathan Villar in a super-utility role.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Returns from IL

The Giants reinstated Longoria (finger) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll start at third base and bat third in the Giants' series finale with the Rockies, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

San Francisco initially planned to have Longoria come off the IL ahead of Friday's series opener in St. Louis, but he'll make his season debut two days earlier than anticipated after his surgically repaired finger responded well to a recent five-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento. He should settle back in as the Giants' everyday third baseman, leaving Wilmer Flores (back) to vie for reps at designated hitter with Darin Ruf.

Giants' Evan Longoria: Slated to debut Wednesday

The Giants plan to have Longoria (finger) back in the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Longoria underwent finger surgery in late March and hasn't yet made his season debut, but he's on track to be in the starting nine for Wednesday's series finale against Colorado. The 36-year-old recently appeared in five rehab games and went 5-for-18 with a run and seven strikeouts.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

    Marlins' Brian Anderson: Nearing return

Anderson (illness) is getting close to returning from the COVID-19 injured list, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.

Although Anderson was unavailable for the Marlins' road trip in Arizona, he'll likely be activated from the IL in the coming days. After missing seven straight games, Mish reports that Anderson has a good chance to return from the IL once the Marlins return home Friday.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Loses arbitration case

Riley will receive a $3.95 million contract for 2022 after losing his arbitration case with Atlanta on Wednesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

He'll settle for a salary of $250,000 lower that he was hoping for after filing for $4.2 million. Riley's uncertain salary situation heading into 2022 hasn't prevented him from getting off to a respectable start to the season, as he heads into Wednesday's series finale with the Red Sox with a .336 on-base average and seven home runs through 30 games.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Likely to need rehab assignment

Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Senzel (illness) is expected to require a minor-league rehab assignment once he clears all COVID-19-related protocols, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "With Nick, it kind of depends if he's back in the next few days, maybe the end of next week he might go play a few games and be back for the homestand [that begins May 23]," Bell said, regarding when Senzel might come off the COVID-19 injured list.

While Bell suggested that Senzel is ahead of Joey Votto (illness) in their respective recoveries from the virus, both players appear unlikely to join the Reds for the start of their three-city, nine-game road trip that begins Thursday in Pittsburgh. Senzel and Votto both look safe to rule out from playing in the four-game series with the Pirates, and Bell's comments seemingly hinted that both players may have a tough time gaining clearance next week for the two-game set in Cleveland or the three-game series in Toronto. While Senzel is sidelined, TJ Friedl and Albert Almora should continue to see increased work in center field.

  • Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN

Reds' Matt Reynolds: Sits after four straight starts

Reynolds is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Reynolds had started at second base in each of the Reds' last four games, going 3-for-12 with four walks and a run over that stretch. He'll take a seat for the series finale while Brandon Drury picks up the start at the keystone, and Reynolds may be the odd man out for regular playing time in the infield if Joey Votto (illness) is cleared to return from the COVID-19 injured list later this week.

  • Cubs' Ildemaro Vargas: Contract selected

Vargas had his contract selected by the Cubs on Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The 30-year-old missed out on Chicago's Opening Day roster but will now receive a big-league opportunity after Nick Madrigal (back) was placed on the injured list. Vargas should serve as infield depth while Madrigal is unavailable.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Out with back tightness

Madrigal was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with lower-back tightness, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to Montemurro, Madrigal felt the tightness during Monday's contest, and he'll now be sidelined for at least the next 10 days. Ildemaro Vargas will join the big-league club as infield depth in a corresponding move.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Madrigal is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Madrigal is 0-for-11 over his past four games and will take a seat Tuesday. Jonathan Villar will man the keystone in Madrigal's place.
