  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Twins' Gio Urshela: Sits in favor of rookie Monday

Urshela is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles.

He'll give way at third base to Jose Miranda, who will make his MLB debut Monday after his call-up from Triple-A St. Paul. The addition of Miranda presents some competition for Urshela, though the 23-year-old prospect may also see at-bats at second base, first base or designated hitter. Urshela's absence from the lineup may be a byproduct of his 0-for-13 showing at the dish over his past three starts, but he's still holding down a serviceable .258 average on the season.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Socks first homer of season

Anderson went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Mariners.

He got the Marlins on the board by taking Logan Gilbert deep in the sixth inning, but they were already in a 5-0 hole at that point. Anderson has been getting consistent playing time lately, splitting his time between third base and the outfield corners, and while the 28-year-old has hit safely in five straight games, his power production has been lackluster. In 63 plate appearances this season, Anderson is slashing .269/.397/.423 with just one home run and two RBI, although he has added 10 runs and a steal.

    Twins' Jose Miranda: Promotion official

The Twins recalled Miranda from Triple-A St. Paul on Monday.

As anticipated, the 23-year-old Miranda will receive his first call to the big leagues in the wake of Miguel Sano (knee) and Kyle Garlick (calf) landing on the 10-day injured list. Miranda has turned in a modest .737 OPS over 95 plate appearances at St. Paul this season, but he was named the Twins' minor league player of the year in 2021 after hitting .344 with 62 extra-base hits between stops at Triple-A and Double-A Wichita. Though he doesn't have a direct path to an everyday role with the big club, Miranda's ability to play three infield spots and potentially serve as a designated hitter should allow to pick up at least a handful of starts during his initial taste of the big leagues.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

    Angels' Anthony Rendon: Resting Monday

Rendon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Rendon is one of four Angels regulars sitting out for either rest purposes or a minor injury as the team concludes its four-game series in Chicago with an afternoon contest. Jack Mayfield will step in at third base for Rendon, who went 3-for-10 with a pair of doubles, two walks and two RBI over the first three contests versus the White Sox.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Base hit in team debut

Paredes went 1-for-4 with a strikeout Sunday against the Twins.

Paredes was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Sunday after Ji-Man Choi (elbow) was placed on the injured list. Paredes was immediately inserted into the lineup, starting at third base and hitting seventh. He could see regular playing time with Choi sidelined, as Yandy Diaz is capable of serving as the first baseman in a shift that would open playing time at the hot corner.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Looks set to join big club

Miranda posted on his personal Instagram account Monday that he'll be called up from Triple-A St. Paul and join the Twins in Baltimore ahead of Monday's series opener with the Orioles, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The Twins have yet to make Miranda's promotion official, but with Miguel Sano (knee) moving to the injured list Sunday and Kyle Garlick (calf) on track to join him there Monday, the club has a clear need for another power bat. Miranda should help fill the void, even though he's had a somewhat disappointing start to the season at Triple-A with a .256/.295/.442 slash line across 95 plate appearances. However, the 23-year-old infielder was one of the top hitters in the minors in 2021, as he supplied 30 home runs and 32 doubles while hitting .344 between stops at St. Paul and Double-A Wichita. Expect the Twins to carve out a near-everyday role for Miranda while he's up in the majors, but he'll have to perform at a higher level than he did at Triple-A earlier this season in order to stick around permanently with the big club.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Remains on track

Moncada (oblique) has gone 3-for-7 with a home run, two strikeouts and a walk across two games during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte.

Moncada appears to be nearing full strength, as he attempted a stolen base Saturday and proceeded to slug a home run Sunday. Most importantly, all indications are that he's had no setbacks with his oblique to this point, as manager Tony La Russa reported that the infielder was able to move freely without discomfort, per Joey Pollizze of MLB.com. The team has yet to announce the date when Moncada will make his season debut, though the White Sox begin a series against the Cubs on Tuesday that could include his return if he continues on the same track.

  • Tyler Nevin 3B | ATH

Orioles' Tyler Nevin: Productive in win

Nevin went 1-for-2 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-5 win over the Red Sox.

Nevin put the Orioles ahead with a two-run single in the fifth inning before scoring on an Anthony Santander sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Nevin got aboard when he was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a Jorge Mateo double. This was Nevin's third straight start, but it was his first time getting on base in any manner this season. He'll likely retreat to a bench role once Trey Mancini (ribs) rejoins the starting lineup.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Knocks sixth homer

Arenado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Diamondbacks.

Arenado served his one-game suspension Saturday and was right back to mashing Sunday. His seventh-inning homer gave the Cardinals their only multi-run lead of the game. He's hit safely in his last five contests, going 8-for-17 (.471) in that span. The third baseman has registered a .368/.435/.697 slash line with six long balls, 18 RBI, 12 runs scored and seven doubles through 85 plate appearances.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Could be called up by Twins

Miranda could be called up by the Twins if Kyle Garlick (calf) is placed on the injured list, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Miranda got off to a relatively slow start at Triple-A St. Paul this year but has heated up recently and is in the midst of a six-game hitting streak. During that time, he's slashed .333/.375/.619 with a homer, three doubles, four runs and two RBI. The extent of Garlick's right calf tightness isn't yet known, but manager Rocco Baldelli said Sunday that the injury isn't "the most minor of occurrences." Miranda is among the Twins' top prospects and hasn't yet made his major-league debut despite slashing .344/.401/.572 with 30 homers, 97 runs, 94 RBI and four steals in the minors last year. Miranda was off to a slow start at Triple-A, hitting .256 with a .737 OPS, but he is hitting .300/.351/.520 with a homer in his last 57 plate appearances. The Twins are in need of right-handed bats with Miguel Sano on the IL and Garlick hurt.
