Machado (shoulder) will serve as the designated hitter in Friday's game against the Astros, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Machado had served as a pinch hitter in each of the last two games, but he'll return to the lineup as the DH in Houston. The Padres are hopeful that Machado will be able to return to third base Saturday.

Moncada is not in the lineup Friday against Baltimore.

Moncada is 2-for-14 with four walks and five strikeouts over the past five games, and he'll head to the bench for the third time this season. Danny Mendick will start at the hot corner Friday for the White Sox.

Toro (oblique) was activated from the 7-day injured list and will be in the lineup Friday for Triple-A Sugar Land, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The 24-year-old landed on the minor-league injured list in early May with a strained right oblique, but he'll make his season debut for Sugar Land on Friday. Toro appeared in six games for the Astros in April and went 1-for-12 with one walk.

Suarez is out of the lineup Friday against the Cubs.

Suarez started the past 25 games and will receive the day off for Friday's series opener. Kyle Farmer will work at shortstop while Max Schrock starts at the hot corner.

Groshans went 2-for-5 with his first home run of the season for Double-A New Hampshire on Thursday.

Out since May 18 while managing a sore back, Groshans made a quick impact in his return to the lineup Thursday. The 21-year-old has a seven-game hitting streak extending back to before his layoff, and he's slashing .261/.358/.370 with a 7:15 BB:K through 12 contests in his first look at upper-minors pitching.

Madrigal batted leadoff for a second consecutive day and went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Thursday's 5-1 win over Baltimore.

He filled in at leadoff for Tim Anderson, who sat out games Wednesday and Thursday due to a sore left thumb. Madrigal reached base seven times in 10 plate appearances during those two games and has a .908 OPS when batting leadoff this season. Anderson is due back Friday, so Madrigal could return to his customary nine hole, or bat second if Adam Eaton (hamstring) remains out.

Ramirez went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Thursday's 5-2 win over Detroit.

The third baseman has been a bit cold in the last week, going 5-for-25 (.200) with two doubles, an RBI and five runs scored in his last seven games. Ramirez's multi-hit effort Thursday was his first since May 15. The 28-year-old has a .256/.347/.535 slash line with 12 home runs, 26 RBI, 34 runs scored and six stolen bases through 199 plate appearances.

Wisdom went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double and a strikeout in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Pirates.

Wisdom hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning after he had a hit by pitch call reversed via replay earlier in the at-bat. The 29-year-old has now gone 2-for-5 while serving mainly as a pinch hitter across his last three games with the major-league club.

Longoria went 1-for-4 with a solo home run as the Giants fell 4-3 to the Dodgers on Thursday.

Longoria got San Francisco on the board in the fourth inning with his solo shot off Joe Kelly but failed to do anything productive in his other three at-bats. The long ball was Longoria's seventh of the season, matching his 2020 total.

Muncy went 1-for-4 with a home run and a strike out in Los Angeles' 4-3 win over San Francisco on Thursday.

Muncy took Giants' starter Alex Wood deep in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie and put the Dodgers up for good. The infielder has been one of Los Angeles' most reliable bats yet again this season and Muncy leads the league with an impressive .450 on base.
