  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Mariners' Josh Rojas: Idle versus LHP

Rojas isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.

With Jeffrey Springs set to begin Tuesday's contest for the Rays, the left-handed-hitting Rojas will step out of the starting nine. In his place, Dylan Moore will cover the hot corner while batting eighth.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Idle versus lefty

Smith isn't in the Rangers' lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox.

With southpaw Garrett Crochet slated to take the mound for Chicago, the lefty-hitting Smith will begin Tuesday's contest on the bench. His absence will allow Robbie Grossman to serve as the Rangers' designated hitter and bat third.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

    Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Resting Tuesday

Arenado is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Arenado is absent from the starting nine for the first time since July 30 for what appears to be a maintenance day. The third baseman will yield to Jose Fermin at the hot corner.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Receiving Tuesday off

Devers is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Devers has gone 3-for-17 with a homer and five strikeouts over the past five games, and he'll receive a day off to reset Tuesday after a run of 14 straight starts. Romy Gonzalez will take over at the hot corner against Toronto righty Yariel Rodriguez.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Still feeling discomfort

Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that Candelario is still feeling pain in his fractured left great toe, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

It's not a surprise to hear considering he's just a week removed from landing on the 10-day injured list, but it emphasizes that Candelario is not close to a return. The Reds presumably won't allow him to resume baseball activities until he's pain-free, and after that he'll need a little time to get ramped back up.

  • Jace Jung 2B | DET

Tigers' Jace Jung: Day off Tuesday

Jung is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Angels.

Jung collected a pair of hits in back-to-back games for the first time in his young career his last two times out, but he will receive a day of rest Tuesday. Ryan Kreidler will hold down third base for the Tigers.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Athletics' Abraham Toro: DFA'd by Oakland

The Athletics designated Toro for assignment Tuesday.

The 27-year-old was acquired from the Brewers during the offseason but has now lost his place on the Athletics' 26-man and 40-man rosters. Toro has played in 94 games and posted a .240/.293/.350 slash line with six homers, four stolen bases, 26 RBI and 34 runs.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Three hits in nightcap

Garcia went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored in a 9-4 win over the Guardians in the second game of Monday's doubleheader.

Garcia went hitless in the matinee, which was the fourth time in five contests he had been held without a hit. The infielder bounced back in the nightcap, earning his first three-hit effort since he had four knocks May 21 versus the Tigers. Garcia is now at a .238/.285/.347 slash line with seven home runs, 23 doubles, a career-high 51 RBI, 81 runs scored and 30 stolen bases through 128 contests. He'll continue to split time between second base and third base, though Garcia is not guaranteed an everyday spot in the lineup.

  • Paul DeJong SS | NYY

Royals' Paul DeJong: Goes yard in nightcap

DeJong went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in a 9-4 win over the Guardians in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader.

DeJong didn't play in the matinee, but he was able to make an impact while starting at third base in the nightcap. The infielder has gone 11-for-32 (.344) with three homers, three doubles and six RBI over his last nine contests. For the season, he has a .238/.288/.450 slash line with 22 homers, 51 RBI, 48 runs scored, 17 doubles and two stolen bases over 120 games between the Royals and the White Sox. DeJong is not an everyday player in Kansas City, but he hasn't been limited to platoon duties since Maikel Garcia occasionally shifts over to cover second base.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Starting rehab assignment

Moncada (adductor) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Moncada started his initial rehab assignment in early July but was pulled off after just five games due to general soreness. He's now ready to give it a go again, setting up a potential return from the 60-day injured list in early September if all goes well this time around. Moncada's last game with the White Sox before he suffered an adductor strain came back in early April.
