  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Nationals' Nick Senzel: Placed on IL

The Nationals placed Senzel on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a fractured right thumb, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Senzel broke his thumb while fielding grounders ahead of Thursday's season opener, and he is expected to be out 3-to-4 weeks as a result. Ildemaro Vargas started in Senzel's place at third base Thursday, though most of the reps at the hot corner could end up going to Trey Lipscomb, who was selected from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Sitting versus southpaw

Baty isn't in the Mets' lineup Saturday against Milwaukee.

Baty was held hitless in three at-bats during Friday's season opener, and he'll sit down Saturday with left-hander DL Hall on the mound for the Brewers. Zack Short will start at the hot corner and bat eighth.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Headed to injured list

The Twins placed Lewis on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right quadriceps strain, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Lewis was taken out of Thursday's game versus Kansas City after suffering a quad injury while running the bases. He initially said his injury felt like a cramp, but MRI results revealed the injury to be more serious. He'll be sidelined for at least the next 10 days, and the Twins will promote Austin Martin from Triple-A St. Paul to take Lewis' place on the active roster.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: On base three times Friday

Hayes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's 7-2 win over the Marlins.

The third baseman had an uncharacteristically rough night in the field, committing two errors, but Hayes made up for it with his bat. He's 4-for-7 to begin the season with two doubles and three walks, and if the improved launch angle he flashed in the second half of 2023 proves to be a permanent adjustment, Hayes has the athletic talent to deliver a 20-20 campaign or better.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Giants' Matt Chapman: Launches two homers Friday

Chapman went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, a double and five RBI in Friday's 8-3 win over the Padres.

Chapman opened the scoring in the first inning Friday with a two-run blast off Joe Musgrove, his first homer with the Giants. The 30-year-old third-baseman added an RBI double in the seventh inning before smacking another two-run homer off Pedro Avila in the ninth, putting the final touches on San Francisco's win. Chapman signed with the Giants late in the offseason after slashing .240/.330/.424 with 17 home runs and 54 RBI over 140 games with Toronto last year. He'll serve as San Francisco's regular third baseman this season while batting in the middle of the order.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Reaches base three times

Bregman went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a stolen base Friday against the Yankees.

The Astros couldn't muster much offense in a 7-1 loss, but Bregman had a productive game. He swiped his first bag of the season on a double steal with Kyle Tucker in the third inning and also tallied his first RBI of the campaign two frames earlier. Bregman attempted only four stolen bases in 2023, so his aggressiveness on the basepaths early in the new campaign is encouraging.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Athletics' J.D. Davis: Drills two homers

Davis went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Friday's loss to Cleveland.

Davis went deep twice against Guardians starter Logan Allen. After being released by the Giants during Cactus League play, Davis quickly found a new home with the A's. His counting stats may end up being lacking due to Oakland's lineup, but the 30-year-old infielder's consistent playing time should help him maintain value in deeper leagues.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Scratched from lineup Friday

Devers was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against Seattle due to left shoulder soreness, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Devers was previously set to start at third base and bat second. Whether the absence will extend beyond Friday remains to be seen. With Devers out, Bobby Dalbec will start at third base, while Tyler O'Neill will move from fifth to second in the batting order between Jarren Duran and Masataka Yoshida.

  • Jonah Bride 3B | TEX

Marlins' Jonah Bride: Gets start against lefty

Bride is starting at third base and batting eighth in Friday's game versus the Pirates, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Bride was a late addition to the Opening Day roster after the Marlins traded Jon Berti, and he winds up getting a start in the club's second game against left-hander Martin Perez. Jake Burger is sliding over to first base and Josh Bell will be the designated hitter.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Handling third base in opener

Monasterio is starting at third base and batting ninth in Friday's opener against the Mets.

The 26-year-old is part of a lineup loaded with righties and switch hitters versus southpaw Jose Quintana. Monasterio slashed .291/.387/.392 against left-handers last season.
