  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Tallies three hits in win

Riley went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Riley has logged four multi-hit efforts over his last eight games, going 12-for-30 (.400) in that span. The third baseman is up to a .282/.346/.519 slash line with 37 home runs, 96 RBI, 116 runs scored, 30 doubles, three triples and three stolen bases through 156 games this season. He continues to hit in the heart of the order in a near-everyday role.

  • Oswald Peraza 3B | LAA

Yankees' Oswald Peraza: Sits down Thursday

Peraza isn't in the Yankees' lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Peraza will sit out the series finale after being held hitless through the first two games against Toronto. Oswaldo Cabrera will instead start at third base and bat sixth.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Rest day Thursday

Hayes is not in the lineup for Thursday's game at Philadelphia.

This appears to be a routine day of rest for Hayes, who went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in the Pirates' loss to the Phillies on Wednesday. Jared Triolo will start at third base and bat third in Thursday's series finale.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Gets breather Thursday

McMahon is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Dodgers.

McMahon will grab some rest leading into the final weekend of the Rockies' season. Alan Trejo is starting at third base and batting seventh Thursday against Los Angeles.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Sitting out Thursday

Garcia is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Detroit.

Garcia started each of the first two games of the series but will get a break for the finale. Nick Loftin will fill in at third base and MJ Melendez has been elevated to the leadoff spot.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Brewers' Brian Anderson: Designated for assignment

Anderson was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Thursday.

This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) as he returns from the 60-day injured list. Anderson played regularly for the Brewers in the first half of the 2023 campaign, but he'd logged only 27 plate appearances since the beginning of August while slashing .192/.222/.308 with one walk and nine strikeouts.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Busy night on basepaths

Suarez went 1-for-2 with a two-run single and three walks in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

Suarez was a consummate thorn in the side of Astros pitching all night after going hitless over his previous two games. The veteran slugger is mired in an 11-game homerless streak, but he's carrying a double-digit walk rate (10.3 percent) for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, while his 94 RBI are his most since 2019 and second on the Mariners behind Julio Rodriguez.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Takes seat Thursday

Peterson is not in the lineup Thursday against the White Sox.

Emmanuel Rivera will start at third base and bat eighth for the visiting Diamondbacks. Peterson handled the hot corner in the first two games of Arizona's three-game series at Chicago and went 0-for-7 with a walk and a stolen base.

  • Jordan Diaz 3B | ATH

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Sitting out Thursday

Diaz is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Minnesota.

Diaz started the first two games of the series but will begin Thursday's afternoon tilt on the bench. He'll yield to Aledmys Diaz at third base.

  • Nationals' Ildemaro Vargas: Avoids arbitration with Nationals

Vargas and the Nationals avoided arbitration Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year contract for 2024.

Vargas is making $975,000 this season and should get a little salary bump for 2024. The 32-year-old utility player has a career-high 280 plate appearances with the Nats in 2023, producing a .245/.299/.354 batting line with four home runs. Vargas does not have options left, so he figures to head into next season in a reserve role for the Nationals.
