Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Reds' Kevin Newman: Batting leadoff
Newman is starting at first base and batting leadoff Tuesday against the Nationals.
With the Nats throwing left-hander Patrick Corbin, Newman will be at the top of the order while TJ Friedl slides down to the No. 8 spot. Joey Votto is getting the day off.

Jeimer Candelario 3B | LAA
Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Socks 12th homer
Candelario went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Monday's loss to the Reds.
He was in the middle of all the Nationals' offense in a 3-2 loss, getting his team on the board in the fourth inning with a solo shot off Luke Weaver before drawing a walk and coming around to score in the sixth. Candelario has gone yard on back-to-back days, extending his hitting streak to 10 games -- a stretch in which he's batting .351 (13-for-37) with four of his 12 homers on the year.

Maikel Garcia 3B | KC
Royals' Maikel Garcia: Continues red-hot stretch
Garcia went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in a loss to Minnesota on Monday.
Garcia batted out of the leadoff spot for the third straight game and made his presence felt immediately, launching a homer off Joe Ryan to begin the contest. The talented rookie went on to reach base three more times and finished with his fourth straight multi-hit performance. Over that stretch, Garcia has gone a scorching 11-for-15 with four runs, three RBI, two steals and just one strikeout.

Jared Triolo 3B | PIT
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Another path to potential at-bats
Triolo went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks Monday against the Dodgers.
Triolo has enjoyed an everyday role at third base since being promoted to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. While he has only a limited sample since, he's maintained a 13 percent walk rate -- a mark in line with his minor-league track record -- and also has one extra-base hit. Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) appears to be nearing a return, but the absence of Ji Hwan Bae (ankle) could cause the Pirates to shuffle their infield. In that scenario, Nick Gonzales could shift primarily to second base and leave Triolo to split time with Tucupita Marcano at shortstop. It's also possible that Pittsburgh opts to demote Triolo to make room on the roster for Hayes' activation.

Max Muncy 3B | LAD
Dodgers' Max Muncy: Homers in win
Muncy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-2 win over the Pirates.
The homer was Muncy's first in seven games since he returned from a hamstring injury. He's gone just 5-for-22 (.227) over that span. The infielder is at a .195/.322/.468 slash line with 19 homers, 49 RBI, 43 runs scored and a stolen base through 67 contests. Muncy may hit the bench occasionally against southpaws, but his solid power should keep him out of a strict platoon. Yonny Hernandez is his top competition for playing time at third base.

Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Takes batting practice
Hayes (back) took batting practice Monday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Hayes has expressed hope that he'll be ready for activation from the injured list when first eligible Wednesday. The Pirates have not confirmed that that's the plan, but the third baseman being on the road trip with the team and taking swings in the batting cage is a good sign. He's been out of commission for a little over a week with lower-back stiffness.

Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW
Angels' Mike Moustakas: Sitting versus lefty
Moustakas is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Red-hot left-hander Blake Snell is taking the ball for the Padres, so Moustakas will take a seat. Hunter Renfroe will get a start at first base Monday, with Luis Rengifo handling right field.

Royce Lewis 3B | MIN
Twins' Royce Lewis: Has Grade 2 oblique strain
Lewis has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left oblique strain, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The moderate strain typically requires a recovery period of around six weeks, which means Lewis could potentially be sidelined into mid-August. It's yet another injury setback for Lewis, who didn't make his season debut for the Twins until late May as he recovered from a second ACL surgery. Jose Miranda is making a second straight start at third base for the Twins on Monday.

Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA
Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Tweaks hamstring
Madrigal was lifted ahead of the bottom of the fourth inning of Monday's game against the Brewers due to right hamstring tightness, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports. He went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a run prior to his departure.
Madrigal appeared to suffer the injury in question while running into a side wall while pursing a fly ball in the bottom of the third. Though he was able to finish out that inning, Madrigal remained on the bench when the Cubs went out for defense in the fourth. The Cubs may send Madrigal in for further tests to confirm the severity of his injury, but it wouldn't be surprising if a trip to the 10-day injured list was in the forecast for the 26-year-old.

Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA
Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Exits game early
Madrigal (undisclosed) exited Monday's contest with the Brewers in the fourth inning, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Madrigal got banged up trying to catch a foul ball down the third base line and he was replaced at third base by Christopher Morel. More information on his status will likely be provided following the conclusion of Monday's game in Milwaukee.
