  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Returns to active roster

Peterson (elbow) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday.

Peterson had been on the shelf for over a month with a sprained left elbow, but he's ready to return after going 2-for-9 in a trio of rehab games. He'll fill a utility role down the stretch for the Brewers.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Not in Friday's lineup

Wisdom will sit Friday against the Brewers.

Wisdom recently missed three straight games with a finger strain, and while he returned for the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, he's gone just 1-for-10 at the plate in his last three games. P.J. Higgins will get the start at first base.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Placed on paternity list

Arenado was placed on the paternity list Friday.

This seemed imminent when Arenado returned home Thursday, missing the series finale against the Cubs. The roster move didn't become official at the time, so it's now possible he misses the entirety of this weekend's series against Atlanta. Brendan Donovan starts at third base Friday.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Held out Friday

Moncada (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Moncada exited Thursday's contest with tightness in his left hamstring, and he'll be sidelined for at least one game. Josh Harrison will shift to the hot corner while Romy Gonzalez starts at second base.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Steps out of lineup

Devers is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Devers had started all 21 games since returning from the injured list Aug. 2, but he'll receive a day off after posting a .626 OPS during that stretch. Christian Arroyo will shift to third base and Enrique Hernandez to second while Jarren Duran starts in center field.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

    Reds' Nick Senzel: Sitting Friday

Senzel will sit Friday against the Nationals.

Senzel sits after starting seven straight games. He hit .269/.345/.385 over that stretch but still owns a poor .626 OPS on the season. TJ Friedl will be the center fielder Friday.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

    Reds' Mike Moustakas: Remains out

Moustakas (calf) remains on the bench for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Moustakas will sit for the third straight game, with the Reds having little incentive to rush the oft-injured veteran at the tail end of a lost season. Donovan Solano will make another start at first base in his absence.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Slugs 16th homer

Paredes went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer Thursday against the Angels.

After sitting Wednesday, Paredes returned to the lineup to hit fifth in the order and play second base with a lefty on the mound. He's started six of the team's last seven games, though four have come against southpaws. He took advantage of his opportunity Thursday, slugging his 16th homer of the season and second in his last three games. In the seven-game stretch during which his playing time has ticked up, Paredes is hitting .227/.320/.591 with three RBI and four runs scored.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Yankees' Josh Donaldson: Posts big stat line Thursday

Donaldson went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a walk, four runs and three RBI in a 13-4 victory against Oakland on Thursday.

The bottom five in New York's order combined to go 12-for-25 with seven RBI in the rout, and Donaldson was at the forefront with a trio each of hits and runs batted in. The veteran third baseman had been struggling mightily entering the contest, going 6-for-44 (.136 average) over his previous 13 games. Donaldson's 12 homers on the campaign are disappointing given than he hit 26 long balls last season, but he's picked up 25 doubles, just one shy of his total last year.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Planned day off

LeMahieu's absence from the lineup Thursday against the Athletics was planned to manage a previous toe injury, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

Giancarlo Stanton returned to the lineup Thursday, which crowded the Yankees' lineup. LeMahieu was the odd-man out, though it was later clarified to be a maintenance day. He returned to the lineup Aug. 18 after missing three games due to inflammation in his right big toe, so the Yankees are taking a cautious approach to his workload.
