  • Rays' Michael Perez: Hits two-run home run

    Perez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Blue Jays.

    Perez got his first home run of the year off starter Marco Estrada in the third inning. Perez had gone four straight games without registering a hit but still has a healthy .323/.353/.484 slash line since coming over from the Diamondbacks on July 26. The 26-year-old rookie has one home run, two doubles and four RBI in 10 games for his new club.

    Red Sox's Sandy Leon: Gets breather Friday

    Leon is not in the lineup for Friday's game at Baltimore, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

    Leon started the last six games for the Red Sox, but Dan Butler will start behind the plate for the first time since being promoted Aug. 3. Leon could sit out a game Saturday as well with a doubleheader on tap in Baltimore.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Working out in Florida

    Vazquez (finger) has resumed working out at the Red Sox's spring training facility in Florida, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

    The extent of Vazquez's activities aren't known, but the backstop isn't expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment until some point in late August or in early September before returning from the 10-day disabled list. Vazquez has been sidelined since July 8 with a broken right pinkie finger that ultimately required surgery.

    Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Set to resume running

    Sanchez (groin) is scheduled to run on the field Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

    Sanchez has been hitting off a tee and doing throwing drills in Tampa, but this will mark his first time running without a zero-gravity treadmill since landing on the DL on July 24. The backstop is set to rejoin the Yankees in New York on Sunday, after which a more concrete timetable for his return should come forth.

    Blue Jays' Luke Maile: Out of lineup Thursday

    Maile is not in the starting lineup against Boston on Thursday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet.ca reports.

    Maile will remain on the bench for the second straight day while Russell Martin catches Ryan Borucki. Since the All-Star break, Maile has been receiving a majority of the playing time and is hitting .265/.324/.353 with six RBI and three extra-base hits.
