  • Max Stassi C | SF

Astros' Max Stassi: Gets day off

Stassi is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels.

It's a routine rest for Stassi, who started at catcher and went 2-for-7 with a run scored during the first two games of the weekend. Tim Federowicz will serve as the batterymate for Houston starter Lance McCullers in the series finale.

  • Angels' Martin Maldonado: Sitting out Sunday

Maldonado is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Maldonado will receive his first breather of the second half after he was behind the plate for the first two games of the weekend. Jose Briceno checks in behind the plate, catching for Andrew Heaney.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

White Sox's Omar Narvaez: Scores twice

Narvaez went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored Saturday against the Mariners.

Narvaez has emerged as the primary catcher for the White Sox and extended his hitting streak to a modest seven games. That has pushed his average up to .294, though his counting stats are unlikely to be noteworthy due to his position in the bottom third of the batting order and the poor White Sox offense.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Cranks 14th homer

Perez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Twins.

His first-inning shot off Lance Lynn gave the Royals a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Perez now has 14 homers on the year, putting him on pace top top 20 for the fourth year in a row, but his .223/.262/.405 slash line remains well below his usual standards.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Scores twice, drives in one

Gomes went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on Saturday against the Rangers.

Gomes hardly stood out in the offensive barrage the Indians put together Saturday but benefited from timely hits to have a productive night. He hasn't homered since July 3, but he has seven runs and five RBI since then, solid numbers considering the lack of depth at catcher.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Not in Saturday's lineup

Garver is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals, Maria Torres of The Kansas City Star reports.

Garver served as designated hitter Friday and busted an 0-for-12 slump by going 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and two walks. Bobby Wilson will start behind the plate and bat ninth for the Twins on Saturday.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Tigers' James McCann: Out of lineup Saturday

McCann is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

McCann went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's 1-0 loss to Boston and will take a seat for the second game of the series. John Hicks will start at catcher and bat fourth Saturday for the Tigers.

  • Sandy Leon C | ATL

Red Sox's Sandy Leon: Heads to bench Saturday

Leon is not in Saturday's lineup against the Tigers, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Leon will take a seat Saturday after starting Friday's game and is now 7-for-41 with 13 strikeouts over his last 12 games. Blake Swihart will start behind the plate for Boston, batting ninth.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

    Athletics' Sean Murphy: Undergoes surgery

Murphy had surgery on his right wrist Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Murphy will hit the shelf after undergoing surgery on his right hamate bone. The Athletics hope he'll be healthy enough to return to minor-league action before the end of the season.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Not in Friday's lineup

Gomes is out of the lineup against Texas on Friday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Gomes will take a seat for the series finale while Roberto Perez is set to handle the catching duties. Look for Gomes to return to the starting lineup Saturday.
