Rangers' Jonah Heim: Getting rest Saturday

Heim isn't in the Rangers' lineup for Saturday's game against Cleveland.

  • Rob Brantly C | TB

Rays' Rob Brantly: Dropped from 40-man

The Rays designated Brantly for assignment Saturday.

The return of Ben Rortvedt from the family emergency list will leave Brantly without a spot on the active and 40-man rosters. The 35-year-old backstop went 1-for-9 over three games during his stint with the Rays, and the owns a .741 OPS across 155 plate appearances in the minors.

  • Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Back on active roster

The Rays reinstated Rortvedt from the family emergency list Saturday.

Rortvedt was moved to the family emergency list Thursday so that he could spend more time with his family following the birth of his child. Now that he's returned to the team, he'll resume duties as Tampa Bay's primary catcher. Rob Brantly was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

    Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Sitting Saturday

Raleigh isn't in the Mariners' lineup Saturday against the Giants.

After going 0-for-3 with two walks in Friday's series opener, Raleigh will take a seat Saturday while Mitch Garver catches for right-hander George Kirby.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Strong showing in Friday's win

Perez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an RBI double in Friday's 7-4 win over the Phillies.

Perez did his damage early, opening the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning before his two-run blast in the third. Since Aug. 5, the catcher is batting a modest .255, but he has seven extra-base hits and 13 RBI over 15 contests in that span. He's matched his homer total from the last two years with 23 while adding 88 RBI, 51 runs scored, 23 doubles and a .276/.334/.474 slash line through 125 games this season.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Idle Saturday

Kirk isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels.

Kirk will get a breather after recording four hits and three RBI through the first two games of the series. Brian Serven will start behind the plate instead and bat ninth.

  • Danny Jansen C | BOS

Red Sox's Danny Jansen: Set to make history

Jansen will be the catcher Monday when the continuation of a suspended game between the Red Sox and Blue Jays resumes, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. The two teams will continue a game that was suspended June 27.

If the continuation goes off as planned, Jansen will become the first player in MLB history to appear in the same game for both teams. Jansen, who was traded from Toronto to Boston on July 27, was at the plate for the Blue Jays with one out and an 0-1 count in the top of the second inning when play was halted. The game will be part of a day-night doubleheader.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Exits with hand injury

Jeffers was pinch hit for in the ninth inning of Friday's loss to St. Louis due to a sore hand, Patrick Borzi of MinnPost.com reports. Jeffers went 2-for-3 with a run scored before departing.

Jeffers took balls off his hand twice while behind the plate but was able to continue playing defense. He couldn't grip a bat later in the game, however. It's not clear if Jeffers will undergo testing, but he already wasn't set to catch Saturday. Should he need additional time off, Christian Vazquez would step into a bigger workload.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Not starting Friday

Rogers is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Rogers has gone 0-for-17 with seven strikeouts over his last five outings. Dillon Dingler will handle catching duties and bat ninth against White Sox right-hander Chris Flexen.

  • Astros' Victor Caratini: Resting Friday

Caratini is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles.

After making back-to-back starts behind the dish, Caratini will get the night off Friday. With Yainer Diaz seeing more work at first base, Caratini should see plenty of action behind the plate in the closing weeks of the regular season.
