Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Hits solo homer

Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Rays.

Raleigh tied his home run total from last year (27) with his 418-foot blast off Taj Bradley in the fifth inning. The Seattle backstop leads all catchers in home runs, with Francisco Alvarez being the next closest at 22. Raleigh is slashing .235/.315/.475 through 125 games this season.

  • Rene Pinto C | PHI

Rays' Rene Pinto: Crushes fourth homer

Pinto went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's 7-4 win over Seattle.

Pinto's 108.7-mph home run in the seventh inning tied things up and chased George Kirby from the game. The backstop has seen increased playing time since Francisco Mejia was outrighted to Triple-A Durham on Aug. 28. Pinto has started six games and hit three home runs since then. He should continue to split time behind the plate with Christian Bethancourt.

  • Rays' Christian Bethancourt: Sitting Friday

Bethancourt isn't in the Rays' lineup Friday against Seattle.

Bethancourt will take a seat Friday after going 0-for-7 with five strikeouts across his last three games. Rene Pinto will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Not starting Friday

Jeffers isn't in the Twins' lineup Friday against the Mets.

Jeffers will take a seat after having his three-game hitting streak snapped Thursday against Cleveland. Christian Vazquez will take his turn behind the dish and bat seventh.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Undergoes surgery

Jansen underwent surgery Thursday to insert a pin into his fractured right middle finger, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Jansen's procedure will officially keep him out for the remainder of the regular season. The Blue Jays have not yet ruled out a return during the postseason, so there's still a chance Jansen is able to aid Toronto in its playoff run. He will finish the 2023 campaign with a .228/.312/.474 slash line alongside 17 homers and 53 RBI across 301 plate appearances.

  • Korey Lee C | CHW

White Sox's Korey Lee: Day off Friday

Lee isn't in the White Sox's lineup Friday against the Tigers.

Lee will get a day off Friday after breaking his cold streak and going 3-for-7 with a homer and three RBI across his last two games. Yasmani Grandal will fill in behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Sitting out Thursday

O'Hoppe is not in the lineup Thursday against the Guardians, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

O'Hoppe had started each of the last three games, during which he went 2-for-11 with a double. He'll get a routine day off, with Chad Wallach stepping into the lineup to hit seventh while serving as the backstop.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Sitting out Thursday

Wells isn't in the Yankees' lineup Thursday against the Tigers.

Wells has gotten off to a slow start since being promoted to the majors last week, going just 2-for-14 with two RBI and a run scored across four games. Kyle Higashioka will start behind the plate in Wells' place and bat seventh.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Slugs 26th homer

Raleigh went 3-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Reds.

The backstop led the charge for the M's from the three-spot in the order, cranking his 26th homer of the season in the fourth inning off Lyon Richardson. Raleigh has been locked in for a few weeks, slashing .300/.383/.614 over his last 20 games with six home runs, 13 runs and 14 RBI as Seattle pushes for the AL West title.

  • Carlos Perez C | HOU

Athletics' Carlos Perez: Squares up for sixth homer

Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run in a win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Perez connected off Hyun Jin Ryu for a 410-foot shot to left field with Ryan Noda aboard in the fourth to erase a 1-0 deficit. The round tripper marked Perez's first time leaving the yard since June 30 and was the veteran's career-high sixth homer of the campaign. Perez should continue seeing semi-regular playing time over the final weeks of the season while filling in at catcher, first base and designated hitter.
