  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: On bench Tuesday

Trevino is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Angels.

Kyle Higashioka will start at catcher and bat eighth versus the Halos and left-hander Patrick Sandoval. Trevino was behind the plate for the Yankees on Sunday and Monday.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: On bench Tuesday

Wong is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Athletics.

Wong went 3-for-4 with three RBI as the Red Sox earned a 7-0 shutout victory in Monday's series opener at Oakland, but it'll be Jorge Alfaro handling the catching duties in Tuesday night's tilt.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Sitting out Tuesday

Perez isn't in the Royals' lineup Tuesday against the Tigers.

Though Perez will miss his second start after suffering a Grade 1 plus strain in his left hamstring Sunday against Tampa Bay, he participated in activities before Tuesday's game and is progressing nicely, per Anne Rogers of MLB.com. Freddy Fermin will once again start behind the dish and bat sixth while Perez recovers.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Gets Tuesday off

Soderstrom is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against Boston.

Soderstrom will take a seat after he started the first four games following the All-Star break, going 3-for-13 while drawing two walks and striking out three times. Jordan Diaz will draw the start at designated hitter and bat third versus the Red Sox.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Sitting Tuesday

Maldonado will sit Tuesday versus the Rockies.

Maldonado will get a breather after he went 2-for-12 with a double, two RBI and a run scored while starting all three of the Astros' games during their series with Angels. Yainer Diaz will take over behind the plate and bat sixth in the series opener with Colorado.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Taking seat Tuesday

Kirk is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Padres, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

It will be Danny Jansen catching Alek Manoah. Kirk is in the midst of a 3-for-39 slump at the plate, which has his OPS on the year down to .610.

  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Tallies three hits

Fermin went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Tigers.

Fermin tallied half of the Royals' six hits in the contest. It was his third three-hit effort since June 21, a span in which he's hitting .370 with one home run, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and four doubles. Fermin should have a chance to play more this week as Salvador Perez recovers from a low-grade hamstring strain. Through 117 plate appearances, Fermin is slashing .275/.319/.440 with four home runs, 19 RBI, 11 runs scored, four doubles and a triple.

  • Edgar Quero C | CHW

Angels' Edgar Quero: Treading water at Double-A

Quero has been a league-average hitter (100 wRC+) while slashing .240/.378/.322 with two home runs in 63 games for Double-A Rocket City.

Quero has displayed stellar plate skills (16.5 BB%, 17.5 K%) as the third-youngest qualified hitter at Double-A, but he hasn't hit for much impact (0.82 ISO, 23.0 percent hard-contact rate). He was pushed very aggressively over High-A this season, so Quero's performance thus far should not be seen as a disappointment.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Swats 13th homer

Rutschman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Rutschman is 7-for-19 (.368) with two homers and four RBI over his last five contests. The catcher provided the Orioles' last run in this game with his fifth-inning blast. Through 90 contests, he's up to 13 homers, matching his total from 113 games a year ago. The 25-year-old has added a .276/.376/.434 slash line, 41 RBI, 47 runs scored and 15 doubles this year.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Homers in Monday's win

Thaiss went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Yankees.

Thaiss got the Angels on the board with his sixth-inning blast. The catcher has hit two of his six homers this year within his last seven games. He's at a solid .254/.367/.387 slash line with 23 RBI, 27 runs scored, two stolen bases and six doubles through 215 plate appearances. Thaiss has started at catcher in three of the Angels' four games since the All-Star break, suggesting he's more firmly in the No. 1 role over Chad Wallach than he was in June.
