Tigers' Eric Haase: Gets Sunday off

Haase is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Haase will get a break in the series finale, with Tucker Barnhart picking up a start behind the plate. Haase has been much better offensively this season with a .750 OPS compared to a .539 OPS for Barnhart. The former will likely return to the lineup Monday.

  • Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Starting Sunday

Barnhart is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Royals.

Barnhart enters the lineup with Eric Haase getting a breather in the series finale. This will be Barnhart's first game action since Tuesday, as he's settled into a clear backup role behind Haase. Barnhart hasn't provided much offense when he has played, with a middling .213/.281/.258 slash line across 83 games this season.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Twins' Gary Sanchez: Gets Sunday off

Sanchez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Sanchez will get a breather with the Twins playing a day game following a night game. Sandy Leon will replace Sanchez behind the plate.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Resting Sunday

Rutschman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, according to Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun.

The switch hitter owns just a .536 OPS against left-handed pitchers, so he will be held out Sunday with southpaw Rich Hill on the mound for Boston. Robinson Chirinos will take over behind the plate.

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Homers in slugfest

Jansen went 4-for-5 with one homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's win over Texas.

Jansen hit a two-run homer off righty starter Kohei Arihara with nobody out in the fourth to increase the Blue Jays' lead to eight. The catcher has been hot in his last seven games, slashing .421/.476/.579 over 21 plate appearances. In addition, this was the 27-year-old's third homer in his last 11 games.

Rangers' Sam Huff: Blasts second homer of season

Huff went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to Toronto.

Huff homered off righty starter Kevin Gausman with one out in the sixth to cut the Rangers' deficit to six. Huff has now started three of Texas' last four games after sitting out initially following his Sept. 7 call-up. The 24-year-old's last extra-base hit prior to Saturday came June 1 when he hit a double and a home run against Tampa Bay.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Angels' Max Stassi: Strikes out thrice

Stassi (undisclosed) went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and three strikeouts in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Astros.

Stassi didn't miss any additional time after leaving Friday's game for precautionary reasons. He's now 1-for-13 with four walks, five strikeouts, one RBI and two runs scored through five games in September. With Kurt Suzuki (bereavement) available again and Matt Thaiss still on the roster, playing time behind the dish for the Angels is likely to remain as a three-way timeshare.

  • Chad Wallach C | ATH

Angels' Chad Wallach: Sent to minors Saturday

Wallach was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Wallach provided additional catching depth for the Halos over the last week but will return to the minors after Kurt Suzuki was reinstated from the bereavement list. Wallach has slashed .198/.287/.340 with eight home runs, 37 RBI and 32 runs over 81 Triple-A games this year.

  • Guardians' Austin Hedges: Resting Saturday

Hedges isn't starting Saturday against Minnesota.

Hedges went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout during Friday's series opener against the Twins, but he'll head to the bench for the second time in the last three games. Luke Maile will take over at catcher and bat eighth.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

    Angels' Max Stassi: Starting Saturday

Stassi (undisclosed) is starting Saturday against the Astros, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Stassi exited Friday's matchup against Houston as a precautionary measure, but he'll start behind the dish and bat eighth a day later. Over four games since the start of September, he's gone 1-for-10 with a run, an RBI, three walks and two strikeouts.
