  • Jonah Heim C | ATL

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Takes seat Wednesday

Heim isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Seattle.

Heim will head back to the bench as he continues to alternate starts behind the dish. Jose Trevino will start at catcher and bat ninth.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Rehab assignment set for next week

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said Wednesday that he expects Jansen (hamstring) to begin a minor-league rehab assignment "by next week," Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

Jansen has been on the injured list since July 23 with a right hamstring strain, but he's been working out for nearly two weeks and appears to be nearing the final stage of his recovery process. Since he submitted a lowly .595 OPS in 140 plate appearances on the season prior to landing on the IL, Jansen won't be a lock to take back the No. 1 catching job from either Reese McGuire and Alejandro Kirk once he's cleared to rejoin the big club in the final week or August or early September.

  • Blue Jays' Reese McGuire: Starting over Alejandro Kirk again

McGuire will start at catcher and bat eighth Wednesday against the Nationals.

In the lineup for the third time in four games, McGuire seems to have eclipsed Alejandro Kirk as the Blue Jays' No. 1 catcher -- at least for the time being. Given that McGuire has gone 1-for-20 at the dish since Aug. 5, he won't have a long leash atop the depth chart if he fails to break out of his slump.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Remains out of lineup

Kirk isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Kirk will retreat to the bench for the third time in the last four games as he continues to split time behind the dish. Reese McGuire will start at catcher and bat eighth, and at least for the time being, he may have emerged as the Jays' preferred option over Kirk.

  • Korey Lee C | CHW

Astros' Korey Lee: Lands on injured list

Double-A Corpus Christi placed Lee on its 7-day injured list Wednesday with an oblique strain, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Lee's injury is considered minor, but he'll still be sidelined for at least a week. The 23-year-old was promoted to Double-A in mid-June and has slashed .261/.333/.467 with eight home runs, 25 RBI, 24 runs and two stolen bases in 45 games since his promotion.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Sitting in series finale

Garver is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Cleveland.

Garver will get a breather Wednesday, as Minnesota and Cleveland wrap up their series with a day game after a night game. Ryan Jeffers will check in behind the dish for Garver, who went 0-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's 3-1 loss.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: On IL with back issue

Soderstrom was placed on the 7-day injured list at Low-A Stockton on Tuesday because of a back issue, Athletics Farm reports.

Soderstrom hasn't played since July 23 due to a collarbone injury, and it now sounds like he's also hampered by some sort of back problem. The severity of the latest issue isn't clear, so it's not known how long the Athletics expect their top prospect to be on the shelf. The backstop has slashed .306/.390/.568 with 12 homers and 49 RBI across 222 at-bats with Stockton this season.

  • Indians' Austin Hedges: Gets rest Tuesday

Hedges is not starting Tuesday against the Twins.

Hedges will get a breather after going 3-for-9 with two doubles and three RBI across the previous two games. Wilson Ramos will assume the catching duties and bat fourth Tuesday.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Sitting second half of twin bill

Sanchez is not starting Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against Boston.

Sanchez went 0-for-3 while starting in his return from the COVID-19 injured list during Game 1. He'll retreat to the bench for the nightcap as Kyle Higashioka catches and bats ninth.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Takes seat for nightcap

Vazquez is not starting Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Vazquez will get a breather after going 2-for-3 with a solo homer during the first half of the twin bill. Kevin Plawecki will work behind the plate and bat seventh during the nightcap.
