  • Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Sent down Thursday

Bemboom was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

Bemboom served as a third option behind the dish recently and went 1-for-8 with a run, an RBI and four strikeouts across two games during his stint with the major-league club. He'll head back to the minors after right-hander Chris Rodriguez (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

  • Tom Murphy C | SF

Mariners' Tom Murphy: Heating up after poor start

Murphy, who went 1-for-3 in a loss to the Athletics on Wednesday, is hitting .333 (8-for-24) with two doubles, two home runs, five RBI, three walks and five runs across his last nine games.

The surge has boosted Murphy's slash line from .127/.179/.304 to a still-abysmal-but-ascending .175/.232/.388. The veteran catcher has typically been a solid offensive contributor throughout his career, but he's split more playing time behind the dish than originally planned with the since-demoted Luis Torrens and Jose Godoy due to his struggles.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Sitting Thursday

Vazquez will sit Thursday against the Astros, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Vazquez has handled a very heavy workload behind the plate this season, with his 42 starts ranking second among all backstops. He'll get a rest during Thursday's afternoon contest, with Kevin Plawecki taking over in his absence.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: On bench Thursday

Sanchez will sit Thursday against the Rays.

Sanchez has gone 7-for-18 with a homer and a pair of doubles over his last seven games. He'll get a rest after making back-to-back starts, with Kyle Higashioka set to catch Gerrit Cole.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Slugs first homer

Jeffers went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and a triple Wednesday against the Orioles.

Jeffers took over behind the plate in the absence of Mitch Garver (groin), who is expected to miss a significant amount of time. He provided a solo homer in the second inning, his first of the season. Jeffers then delivered another RBI and came around to score after collecting a triple in the eighth frame. Prior to being recalled Wednesday, Jeffers was hitting .217/.340/.446 across 103 plate appearances with Triple-A St. Paul.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Placed on 10-day injured list

The Twins placed Garver (groin) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

The move comes as no surprise after Garver underwent surgery Wednesday. The exact timeframe for his return is unclear, but manager Rocco Baldelli indicated Garver will require at least a few weeks to recover.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Athletics' Sean Murphy: Plates pair in big win

Murphy went 1-for-4 with a two-run double, a walk and a run in a win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

Murphy's seventh-inning two-bagger doubled the Athletics' lead to four runs at the time and gave the clutch-hitting backstop his sixth and seventh RBI over his last five games. Murphy is hitting just .222 over that stretch while striking out a massive 35.0 percent clip, but the contradictory numbers are simply a microcosm of a season in which his .379/.457/.517 slash line with men in scoring position thoroughly dwarfs his .215/.310/.389 season-long figures.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Not starting Wednesday

Trevino is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Trevino will take a day off as Jonah Heim fills in behind the dish. It appears to be just a regular day off for the 28-year-old, who's gone 6-for-21 in his last nine games.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Trip to 60-day IL unlikely

The Twins don't expect that Garver (groin) will require a stay on the 60-day injured list, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

However, manager Rocco Baldelli said the catcher will miss "a bare minimum of a couple of weeks" after undergoing surgery for a "severe groin contusion." The injury comes at a tough time for Garver, who had just begun to find some consistency at the plate after a rough start to the season. Ryan Jeffers and Willians Astudillo are expected to make most of the starts at catcher while Garver is sidelined.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: To be recalled

The Twins will recall Jeffers from Triple-A St. Paul, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Jeffers will fill the roster spot of Mitch Garver (groin), who underwent surgery Wednesday and is expected to miss significant time. The 23-year-old struggled at the big-league level early this season, hitting .147 in 34 at-bats before being sent down April 30.
