  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Exits with shoulder fatigue

Perez was removed from Wednesday's game against the Royals with right shoulder fatigue, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

The 31-year-old missed the about three weeks after suffering a right shoulder strain in late July, so Cleveland is liable to remain cautious with any issues in the same area. Perez will have Thursday's scheduled off day to aid in his recovery before potentially missing any games, but a potential aggravation of his previous injury is a problematic development.

  • Rays' Michael Perez: Receives Wednesday off

Perez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

After starting behind the plate in the first two games of the series, Perez will give way to Kevan Smith in the finale. Perez is expected to serve as the Rays' top backstop for the foreseeable future with Mike Zunino (oblique) on the shelf.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Gets breather Wednesday

Vazquez isn't in Wednesday's lineup against Atlanta.

Vazquez recorded hits in each of the past two contests, but he'll get a day off for the series finale against Atlanta. Kevin Plawecki will take over at catcher.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Not in lineup Wednesday

Trevino isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Astros.

Trevino took two walks Tuesday, but he's gone 0-for-9 in his past three games and will take a seat for the second time in the past four games. Jeff Mathis will start behind the dish.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Tallies first homer

Perez went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and one scored Tuesday against the Royals.

Perez delivered his first home run of the season in the second inning, taking Matt Harvey deep for a two-run shot. He's been poor at the plate to this point in the campaign, as he's managed just a .170/.291/.255 line across 55 plate appearances. Given Cleveland's recent acquisition of Austin Hedges, Perez could also be pushed for playing time.

  • Yankees' Kyle Higashioka: Returns from injured list

Higashioka (oblique) was reinstated from the injured list Tuesday.

Higashioka had been out since early August with a strained right oblique. He'd only appeared in three games prior to suffering the injury, going 2-for-9 at the plate. He'll split time with Erik Kratz behind starting backstop Gary Sanchez for now.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: On bench Tuesday

Jansen is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

Jansen hits the bench for the second time in the last three games. He has just three hits in his last 11 contests. Reese McGuire gets the nod behind the plate in his absence.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Sitting Tuesday

Maldonado is not in the lineup Tuesday against Texas, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Maldonado remains the clear primary option behind the plate in Houston, starting 27 of 34 games thus far. Dustin Garneau gets the nod Tuesday.

  • Royals' Cam Gallagher: Sitting Tuesday

Gallagher is not in Tuesday's lineup against Cleveland.

He is hitting .286/.348/.571 with one home run in 21 at-bats over his last 10 games. Meibrys Viloria will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Scores two runs

McCann went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a walk in Monday's win against the Twins.

McCann was one of five White Sox who recorded multiple hits in this game, and the veteran catcher continues to provide offense even if his playing time has been scarce of late. McCann is currently riding a six-game hitting streak, with two multi-hit performances in that stretch.
