  • Royals' Martin Maldonado: Gets rest day

Maldonado is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Indians.

Backup catcher Cam Gallagher will receive a turn behind the plate in the series finale while Maldonado picks up a routine breather. Maldonado started the first two games of the series, going 3-for-7 with a pair of doubles in those contests to lift his season average to .220.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Sitting Wednesday

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Vazquez will take a seat after receiving the last three starts behind the plate for Boston. No. 2 backstop Sandy Leon will check into the lineup in the series finale, working in a battery with Chris Sale.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Belts 12th homer

Garver went 3-for-5 with a solo homer, three RBI and two runs in a 9-4 victory against the Rays on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old hadn't played since leaving Thursday's contest because of a sore left heel, but he looked very good Tuesday. Garver came into the night batting .207 (6-for-29) in the previous seven games, so it's possible the rest may have even done him some good mentally. Garver is batting .305 with 12 home runs, 31 RBI and 29 runs in 131 at-bats this season.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Gets start at DH

McCann is starting at designated hitter and batting cleanup Tuesday against the Red Sox, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

He has continued to swing a hot bat, with three home runs and an .875 OPS in June and back-to-back two-hit games on his ledger. Even with Zack Collins getting the start at catcher, McCann is on too much of a heater to send to the pine.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Out of Tuesday's lineup

McCann is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Red Sox, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

He has continued to swing a hot bat, with three home runs and an .875 OPS in June and back-to-back two-hit games on his ledger. Zack Collins starts behind the dish, hitting ninth.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Back in action

Garver (heel) is back in the lineup Tuesday against Tampa Bay, catching and batting second.

Garver hadn't started a game since leaving Thursday's contest with a sore left heel, though he did appear once off the bench. He owns a .746 OPS in the month of June, in line with his numbers from last season but no match for the incredible 1.164 OPS he recorded through the end of May.

  • Zack Collins C | CLE

White Sox's Zack Collins: Will start Tuesday

Collins will start at catcher Tuesday against the Red Sox, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

This will be Collins' second big-league start at catcher and third overall for the White Sox. He's being tasked with guiding the team through a bullpen game that begins with reliever Carson Fulmer.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Not in Monday's lineup

Jansen is not starting Monday against the Yankees.

Jansen and Luke Maile have alternated starts behind the plate over the last six games. Maile will take his turn Monday.

  • Rays' Travis d'Arnaud: Big day as leadoff man

D'Arnaud went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 8-2 win over Oakland.

In three appearances as the leadoff batter in the last week, d'Arnaud has turned in a pair of 2-for-5 outings and an 0-for-4 performance. In 26 games with the Rays, the 30-year-old is batting .241 with four long balls and 16 RBI.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Collects two hits

McCann went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in Sunday's 7-4 loss to Texas.

McCann has now collected three multi-hit games and four RBI since June 16. The 29-year-old's breakout campaign continues as his OPS is still a robust .895 across 204 plate appearances.
