  • Padres' Elias Diaz: Not starting Friday

Diaz is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Brewers on Friday.

Diaz will be idle for a second straight game while Martin Maldonado will serve behind home plate and bat ninth. Diaz has gone 3-for-24 with two runs, two RBI and eight strikeouts over his last 10 games.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: On bench Friday

Smith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Smith will yield to Dalton Rushing behind the plate Friday for the third time in five games. Smith is slashing .337/.442/.488 with two homers and a 16:12 BB:K in 26 games since the start of May.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Back in action Friday

Realmuto (groin) will bat fifth and catch Friday against Pittsburgh, Paul Casella of MLB.com reports.

Realmuto took a foul tip to the groin area Wednesday and was held out of Thursday's contest due to the issue. However, he's back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Pirates. Realmuto is 4-for-26 in his last eight games.

  • Rockies' Braxton Fulford: Called up to MLB

The Rockies recalled Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Fulford will take over as Colorado's backup catcher after the Rockies released Jacob Stallings. Fulford made his MLB debut earlier this season and went 1-for-8 with a solo home run over four games. However, he's slashing .314/.393/.608 in 117 plate appearances with Albuquerque this season.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: On bench Friday

Ruiz is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.

Ruiz is absent from the starting nine for the second time in three games, as Riley Adams steps in behind the dish. Ruiz is 4-for-31 (.129) at the plate over his last eight games.

  • Austin Wynns C | ATH

Reds' Austin Wynns: Cut from 40-man roster

The Reds designated Wynns for assignment Friday.

Wynns had been serving as a depth piece since Tyler Stephenson was activated from the injured list May 2, and he hasn't had multiple at-bats in a game since May 6. He'll yield his spot on the active roster to Christian Encarnacion-Strand (back), who's being activated from 10-day injured list.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

    Dodgers' Will Smith: Two-RBI day

Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored during Thursday's 6-5 win over the Mets.

Smith snapped an 0-for-16 skid with a couple of run-producing singles, including the rally-starter in the eighth inning to help power the Dodgers to a comeback victory. With an OPS sitting at .928, just outside the top 10 in MLB, the 30-year-old backstop is currently enjoying his best season at the plate since 2020, when he finished the regular season with a .980 OPS.

  • Dodgers' Chuckie Robinson: Sticks with Dodgers

Robinson was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday.

Robinson cleared waivers and will now stick in the Dodgers' organization after being designated for assignment Tuesday. He's unlikely to find his way to the majors barring an injury, with Will Smith and Dalton Rushing atop the team's depth chart at catcher.

  • Cubs' Reese McGuire: Starting Thursday

McGuire is starting at catcher and batting ninth in Thursday's game against the Nationals.

McGuire will pick up his first start since Sunday as Carson Kelly gets a breather. McGuire launched two home runs in his first game of the year back on May 25, but he's gone 0-for-9 with three strikeouts across three games since then. The veteran catcher doesn't have a ton of fantasy value as long as Kelly is healthy, and McGuire will likely be moved off the MLB roster entirely whenever Miguel Amaya (oblique) is able to return from the injured list.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Exiting starting nine

Kelly is absent from the lineup for Thursday's tilt versus the Nationals.

Kelly started at catcher in the first two games of the three-game set but will get a breather for Thursday's finale. Reese McGuire is behind the dish and batting ninth.
