  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Getting rest Wednesday

Amaya is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Amaya will take a seat for the series finale after going 1-for-6 with a double while starting behind the plate in the first two games in Cincinnati. Christian Bethancourt will handle catching duties for the Cubs on Wednesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Nursing wrist injury

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Moreno is dealing with a sore left wrist after being struck by a foul ball Tuesday, but Moreno will be available off the bench for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Since Moreno started behind the plate in Tuesday night's 17-0 win and the Diamondbacks are closing their series with the Nationals with a day game, he would have been a candidate to sit Wednesday even if he was 100 percent healthy. The wrist issue will provide further reason for the Diamondbacks to give Moreno the day off, though the injury shouldn't be anything that costs him time moving forward. The expectation is that Moreno will be back behind the plate in Friday's series opener in Pittsburgh following Thursday's team off day.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Receiving afternoon off

Moreno is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

The Diamondbacks will hand out rest to multiple regulars for the matinee contest after Tuesday night's 17-0 dismantling of the Nationals. Jose Herrera will fill in behind the plate for Moreno, who was one of several Arizona batters to get in on the act Tuesday with two hits, three RBI and two runs over his three at-bats.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Receiving rest Wednesday

Murphy is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Murphy is getting a breather for Wednesday's matinee after he had started behind the plate both of the past two days. Travis d'Arnaud will spell Murphy at catcher, forming a battery with starting pitcher Chris Sale.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Taking seat Wednesday

Contreras is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus Atlanta.

Contreras was hitless in the first two games of the series and will get a breather in the finale. Gary Sanchez will draw the start at catcher.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Resting up Wednesday

Fortes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Fortes will get a breather for the day game after he caught eight innings of Tuesday's 9-3 loss while going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Ali Sanchez will spell Fortes behind the plate.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Returns to lineup Wednesday

Alvarez (shoulder) will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Twins, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez was absent from the lineup for the last two contests while battling some soreness in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. He's ready to roll now and will form a battery with right-hander Luis Severino as the Mets try to complete the series sweep.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Resting for day game

Realmuto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

He'll receive a breather for the Wednesday afternoon game after he logged 12 innings behind the plate while going 3-for-5 with a walk and a run scored in the Phillies' 7-6 loss Tuesday night. Garrett Stubbs will handle the catching duties for Philadelphia in the series finale.

  • Pirates' Endy Rodriguez: Hitting from both sides of plate

Rodriguez (elbow) has resumed hitting off a tee from the right side of the plate, MLB.com reports.

Rodriguez resumed swinging from the left side of the plate in early July, so this marks another step forward in his recovery. He was originally ruled out for the entire 2024 season, though it's now possible that he will serve as the designated hitter in minor-league games late in the campaign.

  • Blake Sabol C | BOS

Giants' Blake Sabol: Back in big leagues

The Giants recalled Sabol from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old has been in the minors since late May and will rejoin the Giants after he posted a .878 OPS in his past 22 games with Sacramento. Sabol isn't likely to see significant playing time while up with the big club.
